well...the same thing applies in USA ....dont they have different dialects state to state?....England has counties ...I personally am from Yorkshire and sound vastly different from someone from cumbria....

There are very minor differences in the US, but mainly just accents. Some people will use y'all and ain't while others will ridicule its use.

All you need is a modest house in a modest neighborhood

In a modest town where honest people dwell

y'all and aint are not exclusive to accents.....i am english and i can say y'all ....i would be told by my countrymen i am not speaking english....( and they would laugh hysterically!) I have never heard anyone use that WORD in serious conversation other than american ...i have been known to say it my native accent but it was only as a jest .....

eh?

Sorry, I didn't mean for it to be taken as saying that y'all and ain't are accents. Those were just two examples of words that are only used in certain parts of the country.

I don't get why people scoff at y'all. Is it any worse than won't? I think not. Couldn't? nope. Can't? I don't see how. It's a very simple contraction.

personally i have informed my husband (USC) if i ever EVER EVER use y'all to send me home at once! that or put me out of my misery!.....lol.....i understand what your saying ( 2 words slammed together to make one...) but it is just something about that particular pairing ...i suspect whenever i have heard in use it has sounded so........well bad...but that is just my personal opinion and if it was ever used i would never make issue with the user.

One of my pet words to cringe at is the american use of "awesome" - now THAT i hear all the time.....and most times it is inappropriate .....my former work colleagues were always amused by my perceived preoccupation with what is and is not "appropriate"....a source of amusement all round ( me included - they use to tease me telling me i had missed my vocation and should have been a english teacher!)...but i still miss them!

The english language doesn't have an ustedes, though. That's my issue. Y'all sounds much better than any other form I've heard; yous, you guys, yous guys, youtz, you, etc.

Can anyone explain the difference between trash and garbage? I still don't get it!

And by the way, here in Kentucky they all seem to say y'all! It must be noted that y'all is the singular version. For plural the correct form is all y'all!

That's where the northern 'you guys' would be appropriate.

Never 'youz guyz' tho

"yall understand?"

Do you all understand?

But that's the thing, you are adding grammatical errors on top of it. You are blaming "y'all" for the lack of a verb in the sentence. Those are two totally separate issues.
