What is it with this fixation with (and indeed misunderstanding of) socialism in the US? None of the US politicians I've seen can reasonably be described as "socialist". In fact the whole bent of US politics (including the left) is noticeably further to the right than Europe.

Capitalism tries to guarantee equal opportunity for all.

That is bullshite and you know it. Manchester had Capitalism pure. Didn't do much for the many. Capitalism needs counterweights to function for all.

Social tries to guarantee equal oppression for all, except that elite little group at the top that eats, drinks and are merry on the fruits of everyone else's labors.

I agree on the first part but the latter can well be said about the good ole' USofA today where 1% of the population shares some 90% of the wealth. I'd call that an elite little group that feeds off of your labor and mine. ;)

Any socialists in your toilet?

Pretty soon the Red Menace will be reborn. Maybe when they're done making new enemies in the Middle East? Hmmm... Don't know... I think they have plenty of prime material to keep that one going long enough!

I kind of doubt that the folks responding to those polls are responding to "personalities".

It's all about personalities. We live in a show biz culture. It's all Hollywood all the time. Someday we may get back to the Culture that we once had, but for now it is all personalities. Can you say Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie?

Yeah well - that doesn't put much faith in your fellow voters. The polls ask specific questions about job performance. Besides - I thought you said it wasn't about personalities....

Duh...I said I do not vote for a person's personality ..... but most people do especially the Dem's, that is why the have B.D.S. so bad.

So you don't apply the same rigorous standards to others that you do for yourself? No benefit of the doubt or polite reservation of judgement?

However you slice it - standing on the side of the 24% puts you in a noticeable minority. Except of course - those 24% of respondants aren't voting because they think GWB is doing a good job - it's because they 'like' him. Hmmm...

I dunno - there's been enough polls, from enough sources to verify that large numbers of people are unhappy with GWB's job performance. You don't think that any of those people reasoned the opinion on any specific issues - only the fact that they personally don't like him? That seems pretty spurious - but that's just my opinion.
