Discrimination isn't always a bad thing.

Certain jobs (such as those within the United States government that require high-level security clearance) necessitate American citizenship. That is in no shape or form "discrimination." I can't imagine any country's government that cares at all about security would allow non-citizens access to positions and information that's potentially sensitive for the country.

You have to remember -- if you haven't become a U.S. citizen yet, the U.S. government will automatically assume that your loyalties are first and foremost to your home country. Whether or not that's true is a moot point.

Besides, there are plenty of careers in the U.S. that aren't government-related and do not require security clearance (and therefore, U.S. citizenship), so you shouldn't have any trouble with those. If your heart is set on a job that has the aforementioned standards, then be prepared to meet them.

It makes sense that a government job would require you to be a citizen. Seems logical to me.

well I am not a citizen and I work for the government. It's not like you won't be able to find a job because most require citizenship.

To the OP: if a job requires security clearance of certain level, you are not eligible. Sux, but what can you do? I'm sure with your qualifications you can find another job for the time being. Good luck in the job hunt!
