Mandatory AP due to 75-country pause. Everything was very organized and CO was very professional. Sucks that there is a pause however.

My fiancée received a 221(g) administrative review at her interview at the US Embassy in Riyadh because she is a national of Pakistan, which is one of 75 countries that was named in the Immigration Freeze that began on January 21, 2026. Even though the K-1 Visa is designated by the Department of State as a Non-Immigrant Visa, due to it being handled by the Immigration Visa Department across all US Embassies and Consulates around the world, it can be misinterpreted to being included in the Immigration Visa Freeze directive by the State Department. The Visa Officer that interviewed her was very friendly and told her that everything looked good and that she wouldn't have to interview again once the freeze is lifted, however, at this time he cannot issue her the K-1 visa.

Interview Time: 8:30 AM
Arrival: 7:30 AM
Date: October 7, 2025
I arrived at the embassy around 7:30 AM and was first asked to show my interview confirmation page before heading to the shuttle area. After boarding the shuttle, we drove to the embassy and went through the usual security checks.
Once inside, I walked to the Immigrant Visa Section, where they collected:
- Passport
- Original birth certificate
- Police certificate
- Proof of fee payment
- Sealed medical
- DS-160 confirmation page
- 2 passport style photos
After submitting those, I received a token number and waited in the seating area for quite a while—about a few hours. During that time, I noticed several K-1 visa applicants getting refused, which made me really nervous.
Finally, my number was called. The Visa Officer (VO) greeted me, took a deep breath before starting (which scared me a bit)... read complete review

My husband had his interview in ISB and lives about 3 hours away. We recommend staying overnight to ensure you arrive on time and bringing a family member with you in case you need someone to hold your luggage while you're in the interview—they can wait in the designated area.
Be sure to bring your most recent tax documents and income statements, as they will review these carefully. One person near my husband was rejected because they provided outdated income details.
Overall, best of luck! You've got this!
