I as the petitioner joined my husband for his visa interview at the U.S. consulate in Paris on 5/21/25. The security staff were kind and they required us to check any electronics (including our phones) with them and gave us a lanyard with a card attached so we were able to pick up our electronics on the way out. I brought all the required original documents plus everything we had submitted just in case. We waited in the first line to review our documents with a staff member for maybe 40 minutes or so, and the staff then ensured we had all the original documents needed, my husband's medical had been received and was within the needed timeline, etc. and gave us a ticket with a number on it. We went to the lobby of the consulate to wait for maybe 10 minutes and our number was called. We went to the window we were called to and the agent asked which countries my husband had lived in and verified his criminal clearances were on file for those countries. She asked if he had been marrie... read complete review

I recently applied for an IR1 immigrant visa at the U.S. Embassy in Paris. After my case was approved by the NVC and an expedited request was granted in early May 2025, I had my interview at the embassy on May 21, 2025. The consular officer was professional and informed me that my visa was “Approved,” pending receipt of my medical file.
Despite my doctor confirming that my medical file was sent on May 13, 2025, my case remained stuck with no updates from the embassy. I sent several emails between May 22 and early June but received no response or clear information about my situation.
Due to this lack of communication, my American wife contacted a Congressman on June 8, 2025, to try to resolve the issue. It was only after her intervention that I saw progress: my case status changed from “Refused” to “Ready,” then to “Administrative Processing,” and finally to “Issued” on June 12, 2025.
In summary, the interview and the expe... read complete review

My spouse went to the consulate without me (the petitioner) because I was already in the US. He said that there was a big line and officers asked to check his paperwork three times, including once while he was waiting in line outside in the rain. The interview wait was a couple hours. The interviewing officer asked a few basic questions and said everything looked good. They just hadn't received the medical results yet. The visa was issued 9 days later, but we didn't receive the news that his passport was ready for pickup until 2 weeks after the appointment. Don't forget to check the status updates on the CEAC site. We didn't realize they we could look there.
