I sent out the checklist on 12/19/2012 and the embassy e-mailed me the 27th that I had an appointment for 1/3/2013. I e-mailed the embassy and my fiance was allowed into the embassy with me.
The appointment was at 10am and we arrived about 10 min early and rang the buzzer. Once upstairs, we went thru a sort of airport check. Only one person was allowed in the room at a time. We were told to sit in the waiting area and wait for my name to be called. There were 3-4 people already there.
My name was called and the officer asked me for "the documents". I gave him the medical packet, police report, birth certificate (virkatodistus), and DS forms. Then they called my name again and asked for 2 photos and I was told we would continue soon. Then they called me once again and asked for affidavit of support (when they ask for "the documents", it would be a good idea to make sure whether they need the affidavit of support now or later). Last they called me for the fi... read complete review

Like most of finnish who has had their interview in Helsinki, I also thought it was overall nice and fast experience. I sent my packet3 on one Wednesday, got scheduled for interview on Friday and had it in 6 days on next Thursday.
I had 9.00am appointment and I was there on time, but when I rang the doorbell (consulate is in Kaisaniemi at the moment) and said my name, they could not find me from the list. They asked to ring a bell again in 10min and then they finally let me in. I needed to wait in hallway before I was taking inside and after the security check they adviced me to sit and wait. I waited maybe 5 min and then they called me first time. I just left all the papers they wanted (they did not wanted to see my pics or any other proofs) and was told again they will invite me over soon again. They did that maybe 5 min later, and then I was talking with CO. She was very nice and interview was easy and no problems. Couple simple test questions wher... read complete review

The interview was quick and painless. They didn't even look at most of the forms I was supposed to bring. After answering a few basic questions about my fiance and our relationship, I was told that my visa was approved.

The interview was really easy. It took me 50 minutes in the consulate, most of that time was waiting. First I had to hand over my documents, except the evidence which they didn't look at at all. Then I had to go back to wait, after a while I was called to give my fingerprints and after that more waiting. The third part was finally the interview. The interviewer asked me:
How did we meet?
Did we start to date right away?
Have we met each others' parents?
Have I visited the States?
She asked questions about what my fiance was studying, what's her degree etc...
So the questions weren't too personal. They said that they'll mail me my passport with the visa after a week. A negative part was the loudspeakers, you could hear what everybody was saying.
