My daughter and I had to fly to Sydney from Perth so we stayed at the Travelodge on Phillips St. Closest hotel I could see (as recommended in another member's review!). Got to the MLC building at 7:30am and went to the 10th floor. Progressed quickly through to the 59th floor. Received Immigrant visa number 002. I was very apprehensive but all the staff were very friendly. I was a little bit concerned when they asked me about my own funds. I had shown I have a house in Australia which I am getting ready to sell, but they wanted to see a sale contract. I reminded them that they advise us against selling our house until the visa is approved. It was a nervous wait for the interview as the filing clerk said the consular officer would have to make a decision on whether to accept my evidence. Fortunately he did.
I was surprise how quickly it all happened. I anticipated spending the whole morning there and we brought travel Scrabble along to kill time. I was so nervous I was shaking and... read complete review

*** Work in progress ***

We arrived the Consulate building around 0700... however, the elevators to the 10th Floor (U.S. Consulate security checkpoint) are not functional until 0745 for the general public. Personnel that work in the building have key-cards that allow them to utilize the elevator. So, we waited in the seating area by the elevator entrance until the elevators *finally* worked for us.

Once the elevator is usable you go up to the tenth floor and find the U.S. Consulate security office. The security folks will ask for your appointment letter and identification... then process you through a metal detector to another waiting area. Once

Got to the MLC building around 7:20.. the lifts up to Level 10 dont open til 7:30 so was a little early.
Level 10 walked right, all the way around to the consulate office where we lined up and gave the security lady our appointment letter and passport.. She had a quick look through my bags and I went through the metal detector. Sat down in the first row of seats waiting for 7:45 when the next lifts open. Was in the first lift up (someone suggested to get into the lift last which was a good idea).

4th in line at the next security check. They looked at letter and passport, put any bags through the scanning machine and took away phones. Once through you get sent to the right through the doors to the waiting rooms. Directly ahead is the ticket machine which blends in a little too well and can easily be missed. Top button, ticket number 001 =D.. waited around 15 to when i was called up to window #1. Gave the lady all of my documents and appointment letter. She had a q... read complete review

Interview 5/6/06
Well, I really cant add more than the previous members.
Just be there on time and be organised. have everything in order, (original followed by the copy etc etc).
If you're organised and start with a smile, its hard to go wrong. I found all the staff at the consulate to be professional and friendly. Yea, you may have to wait a while but you've probably been waiting for 5+ months already right.
One thing, you must hold on to your interview letter when you hand over the paperwork so don't tear it up once you get to the 59th floor.

Got there on the tenth floor at 7.30 am, the 3rd in the door, but the cue sure filled out pretty quick. I explained I had faxed, emailed, written, rung to try to let them know I didn't have the criminal history yet and need to cancel interview. I did get a return email from them the next day to say they note I have already had my interview and sorry they did not return my email. Am I glad I had got the receipt etc cause they let me have the interview anyway. Silly me had no snacks or anything with me. There are signs everywhere about the lack of toilets up on the 59th floor where the actual consulate is so I thought I better go, not thinking I'd have to get in that cue again. They take you up the lifts about six at a time and then more security. Take a ticket and wait. I had all the documents in order in a A4 size plastic box, so looked very organised. The file folder I made up with further documents and new evidence I did not even open. I was so proud of that folder too and wanted to ... read complete review
