We didn't get a snail mail letter from the NVC at all for our K-1, but the consulate in Dublin emailed us and told us the file had arrived and included a packet of instructions, so we weren't too worried about it.  However, we weren't aware we were missing something important until we went to pay the visa fee...the NVC case number.  Didn't know it was different from the USCIS receipt number.  We have that info now, but I'm just wondering...has this happened to anyone else? Do we actually NEED that NVC letter (that we never received) included in our paperwork? Hope not...they don't list it in the required documents, so...  Our appointment is in a few weeks.

How do you have an appointment if you can't pay for it? Does Ireland work differently than most countries in this? I had to pick my date and pay for it all at the same time.

Anyway at any point you're missing any sort of paperwork call USCIS/NVC/Embassy and make sure you have everything. Also NVC can provide your case number which also should've been included for you in the letter you received from the embassy.

I think it varies from consulate to consulate.  They chose a date for us, we were not allowed to choose it ourselves.  And in our case the fee must be paid before the interview, but not necessarily at the same time that the scheduling occurs.  At any rate, I called the NVC and got the necessary info, just looking to see if anyone had the same experience.  I don't THINK we need a copy of the letter, from the info I have at my disposal, but I might have him call the consulate just in case.
