Hi All,

I just started the process of my mom's petition and came to know that there is a requirement for parents birth certificate. Surprise enough my mom does not have one. The birth place was my Grandparents house. This does not end here, My mom's school certificate displays different name prior marriage (both first and last) so I cannot use that as well because her name on my passport is different (same name as on her current passport). Her passport already has a name correction (remove middle name) to match her name to my passport.

Now I wanted to understand what are my options here. I appreciate your comment on each option listed below and if someone faced a similar issue.

1, Do I need to get a Birth Certificate? I am not even sure I can get it but I can try the departments who takes care of it.

2. I cannot use her School certificate because of a different name, it will only add more complications I guess.

3. Can I  submit the Affidavit of birth instead of Birth certificate with format discussed here: http://www.***removed***/birth-certificate/birth-certificate-affidavit-mother.html

4. Any other document I can provide to support my case and avoid RFE's.

Thanks in advance.

5. As per the Indian law mentioned here https://travel.state.gov/content/visas/en/fees/reciprocity-by-country/IN.html, anyone born before April 1970 is not required to have a Birth Certificate. So does this means that I do not send any document regarding Birth Certificate in supporting documents or do I still l have to add the Affidavit from parents mentioned in Point 4 above?

you will need to have some affidavits made from her close family members about her birth. Have them put in that how they know your mother, date and place of birth.it could be any of her siblings, uncles or aunts.
