DS-260 Employment Question

I do hope people are able to assist. :-)

I am in the process of completing the DS-260 form and I had a question relating to the 10 year employment history.

I was registered with an employment agency and placed at one position/job until I became a permanent member of staff with that company I was placed at. Now, with regards to the start dates required, do I put the date I started via the agency and placed in said role,as one position, and then permanent role, after leaving the agency, at the same company, as another, even if it was it the same company the entire time, or would I list this just one employment position?

Also, I am unable to locate exact start dates with the agency, as I spoke to the them and they never updated their records.

I do have the exact date once I became a permanent member of staff and listed on their pay role and I do however know the month and approximate date within a 1 week period, I started via the agency. Do the dates need to be exact?

I also had a similar question in relation to the start and end dates of my education. I am unable to locate previous term dates for Secondary School/Colleges from 15-20 years ago, do these dates need to be exact or can I use an close approximate?

I do hope this question makes sense.

I used the first of each month when I couldn't recall the exact date.

I would put the date you were with the company including the temp contract as one continuous employment. You sat at the same desk doing the same job? The fact that you were paid by someone else for the first x months was just a way of the company making it cheaper for themselves. They are not required early concerned about it too much - what they are looking for is doing jobs that could mean you had access to official secrets, military training, weapons, bomb-making, etc.

Thank you for the speedy reply. This is very helpful. You have confirmed what I thought would be the best solution but obviously in situations like this, and with the information needing to be as correct and thorough as possible, I wanted to double check.

Have you thought to look at your old tax returns for dates of work?

and BTW tax returns (for anyone who doesn't know) should be kept forever / they can audit the last three years but if they find faults and they say you owe, they can go back to day 1 of your employment even while a student / just to let all know

We don't do tax returns in the U.K. We use a much better system called PAYE (pay as you earn).

Does this mean it's a red flag if an applicant was in the British Army for over a decade?
