Credit transfer from ITIN to SSN

Hi VJs,

So right now I'm a little more than 1 year into my car payments that I financed with my ITIN, but soon I'll be getting my Green Card/SSN and once I get that my credit will be literally "clean" since it's a brand new SSN and there's no credit history.

Does anyone know if it's possible to transfer the credit I'm getting with my ITIN into my SSN?

Is it as simple a calling the bank and asking them to change my ITIN on file for my SSN?

Thanks. :luv:

You have to call your creditors to update your ITIN with your SSN. I believe you also have to contact the IRS or the SSA, (I forget who issues ITIN's) or maybe both, in order to cancel out that ITIN and merge your work and tax history and such with your SSN so that you can get credited for that properly.

You also have to contact each of the 3 credit reporting agencies (Experian, Transunion, and Equifax) to have your SSN reflected on your credit report and merge it into one file as well. This way your credit history won't be lost.

Plus any other agency/company that you have a relationship with who has your ITIN.

This does not constitute legal advice.

Thank you, do you say that from personal experience?

No. But I have changed my name, and it's pretty much the same thing. You have to report a change of your information and show proof.
