From what I understand, there are times when breaking the fast is allowed. Medical reasons, pregnancy, nursing, having your period. Now of course I am not expert, but I am sure you will be forgiven if you don't fast.

I have hypo glycemia, and I tried fasting for about 3 days during Ramadan 2 years ago. It never failed, by night time I would go into one of my attacks. Due to my condition it is vital that I keep my sugar levels in check, therefore I know Allah will forgive me if I don't fast. Don't feel guilty if you choose not too, I am sure Allah is concerned for the health of your baby.

Congratulations on the baby news and on your first Ramadan here in the US with your husband!

Are you shafi'i? Here's an opinion on not fasting while pregnant. Talk with your doctor to see if it will make you sick or harm your baby.

Congratulations Salwa! I am glad to see you posting again. I've missed reading your insightful comments. Being pregnant away from family can be very trying regardless of ones religion. Please feel free to PM me any time if you need someone to talk to. I had both of my sons far from any family and I understand the frustrations of going through this time without that much needed support.

Aren't you a doctor? My husbands sister is a nurse and she says doctors are the worst patients since they forget that everything they tell the patients applys to them too. Don't forget to take care of yourself. You don't have to be told how important the next 7 1/2 months are in the life of the little one inside of you.
