I used GTR when I went, and it was a pretty smooth process. I would definitely use them again if going to Moscow. $200 for the piece-of-mind that it's going to be handled for you and done quickly and smoothly.

(Although..... Satellite keeps telling us...... get your girl to send you the homestay invitation and do it yourself! I think he's got me convinced to go this route next time. That, and I won't be going to Moscow.)

Ensure your beneficiary makes and brings with them to the States a copy of the DS-3025 (vaccination form)

If the government is going to force me to exercise my "right" to health care, then they better start requiring people to exercise their Right to Bear Arms. - "Where's my public option rifle?"

It only works if you can plan your trips in advance. I had my Russia trips planned a good 6 months in advance and started getting my visa 5 months in advance and never purchased tickets until after visa issuance. Granted my visas took less than 2 months to pull off from start (in Russia) to finish (Russian Consulate), I was in no hurry and certainly strapped for cash, as I still am.

Not going to Moscow next time. Going to the Far East, and probably through Korea or Japan, not Moscow. GTR does offer services throughout the country, but it's much easier in Moscow. When outside the big city, you'll either have to go to the OVIR or a fancy hotel anyway, might as well save the $200 and just do it yourself.

Although, it is sometimes a lot cheaper this way because I can use the SkyMiles for a free domestic ticket from Moscow to Vladivostok and airfare from here (CVG) to Moscow (SVO) is usually pretty cheap. I got Elena's ticket from Vladivostok (VVO) all the way to Cincinnati for a grand total of $687. I did that by using my SkyMiles for a free trip for her from VVO to SVO (a savings of $504) then searching the internet for some cheap fares from SVO to CVG. That one ended up being $614 plus $39.95 to FedEx the ticket. The SkyMiles ticket was free, but they sent it here so I had to send it to her via USPS Global Express for $24.25 and it should be there in under a week. She just got the FedEx ticket, so hopefully she'll get this other one soon too. (Some of you may remember the debacle that was me sending the I-134 via USPS, but I think we've figured it out.... LIST A PHONE NUMBER!!!!) So, this is the official announcement that she should arrive here on Oct. 17th!
