Hi all,

Hubby and I had our interview at the Norfolk VA office yesterday so I just thought I would share our experiences with you. First, we made a small mistake when reading my appointment notice - it was for 11.30 but we both read it as 10.30 so we arrived at the office super early and didn't even realize until after our interview! Few others were around so we got seen relatively quickly. The rest of the interview went as follows:

1. Sworn in by the IO.

2. Sat down and handed over our drivers licenses, passports, old EAD (from pre-completion OPT).

3. The IO asked us for new documents that we hadn't submitted so I gave her this year's tax return, a copy of our new savings account statement, joint credit cards and future travel plans.

4. The officer started with the basic questions on what is your wife/husband's name. What are your parents names. Then we talked some about school and out of nowhere another quick fire question - what is your SSN?

5. The IO followed this question/relaxing chat/question tactic for a while, which I guess would throw you off if you weren't prepared.

6. Standard Yes/No I-485 questions.

7. Very brief question about how we met and when we moved in together and got married.

8. Asked if I was taking hubby's name for my GC because I didn't put it on the application. I said yes, can you change that? No problem!

That was it! She talked about ROC and we were all done. The officer was professional and alert. Clearly she had her mind made up before we even sat down. Curiously she never asked for my long form birth certificate (they only have the short version) after all the trouble I went to in ordering it and having it overnight air from UK to US ($$!)

Most important of all, I saw my card production has been ordered so I should have my card soon! Yay!

Thank you very much for your post! Our local office is in Norfolk as well and it is very comforting to know that they where nice to you.

So you didn't change your name before applying for AOS? That's my case. I just put my maiden name in everything and haven't changed in the social security etc yet.. Did you have you name changed in your marriage certificate? For some reason in VA they don't change our name when we get married. We have to ask in court after receiving the GC (weird!).

Anyhow, Congratulations!!
