HOW DO YOU GET YOUR TAX RETURNS/TAX TRANSCIRPTS WHEN IN KOREA?

Hi there,

These could be dumb questions, but I am clueless! If someone can save me, I would deeply appreciate it. What is the easiest and fastest way of getting your tax returns/tax transcripts when in Korea? Step by step if you can=)

Also, I haven't filed my taxes in America for over 10 years as I have been working in Korea. I did file taxes in Korea though. How do I go about this? Do I just file the past 3 years according to obtaining a green card for my spouse or do I have to file all the years I have been in Korea? Where should I file my taxes? Online?

Well, first things first, you have to file the tax returns and then afterwards you can request the transcripts... but this will take time.

If you're computer and tax savvy a bit... try doing it yourself online or with TurboTax. This way you can prepare, print and file all on your own and you'd have a copy of the tax returns on hand (unless you have the time to wait for IRS to process your return and order a transcript). If you wait for the transcript it can take a couple months maybe or not, depending what your return's bottom line is and method of filing.

Or find an independent tax preparer who has e-File capabilities and their software provider still has e-File open for the last couple years - this is your fastest option to get the tax returns into the IRS system and on record.
