TRP (Temporary Resident Permit) Extension

I was wondering if anybody has any advice for me, Hubby & I lived in the US for a few years together (I had overstayed), I came back to permanently live in Canada and hubby came along and was granted a temporary resident permit that expires in 3-4 weeks. We don't want him to leave, we would like to extend his stay and if need be make him a permanent resident.

He had 2 DUI's over 10 years ago, the border agent saw he was a changed man which is why he was granted the temporary resident permit, now we wonder if we could extend the temporary resident permit and are not sure what steps to take and in what order, should we file for an extension of the trp or should we do his rehabilitation application (we were under the impression that we could only do that outside of Canada). Should we do both at the same time? Is there any truth that we can request a 3 year temporary resident permit? We've been married for a few years and yes we messed up my chances in the US but we don't want to mess his chances here.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, I am feeling overwhelmed and I've read so much information that I'm no longer sure what road to take.

If I file for the temporary resident permit again will we find out that he can (hopefully) stay before the current one expires? I just saw I should have done it at least 30 days before but we're short on that of less than a week.

Please any suggestions on the proper order or steps to take would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Belle. You are posting on a site which is dedicated to the US process of immigration. You should probably try somewhere like:

Road to Canada

Loon Lounge

Immigration.ca

Having said that, there may be someone in this forum who knows the answer to your question. You're extremely lucky that the CBSA agent allowed him in with those DUI's. Those are grounds for refusal of admission so I'm pretty surprised by that.

Anyway, all the best.
