Event Description

Embassy Review : I got to Bond Street tube at 7.30am and found my way to Gould Pharmacy where I stored my mobile. The guy didn't seem to believe me when I told him that I didn't have any other electronics on me.

I then walked down to the embassy and joined the queue. It wasn't very long, and they had a desk at the start of the line where they were checking that people had MRV fee receipts and interview letters. There was also a chap at the other end of the queue doing the same thing, but he also wanted to see passports. Once I was past him I was called into the security lodge as part of a group of four. It was pretty straightforward, a bit like security at an airport. I had to put all metal objects including my belt and wallet into a plastic baggie and then I went through a metal detector.

After the security lodge I walked round the side of the embassy and up the steps into the building. The guy at the desk checked my MRV fee receipt and interview letter and looked me up on his computer. He then printed out a bunch of stickers with my number on it (I905) and stuck them to my letter. After that I walked up into the waiting area and found an empty seat. It was 8am by this point.

Just after I sat down the interview windows started to open up and people with N numbers started to be called. It took a while for them to start on I numbers, and each one seemed to take an age. They finally called out my number at 9.15 and I headed to window 13.

The window contained a very friendly English lady who started out by asking who my sponsor is and what my relationship to her is. I guess it was a test, but it seemed a little odd! After that she vanished for 10 minutes while she went off to find my file. Once she was back she got out a worksheet and went through to make sure I had everything I needed. For the affidavit of support she just took the copy of Cassie's 2010 tax return and the letter from her employer. While she was going through all the paperwork she asked me a lot of questions about my fiancée and I--how did we meet, when did we last see each other, why hadn't I been over to the US since we filed the petition, where would I live in the states, etc etc. When I told her how Cassie and I met she announced that it was clearly fate. She seemed to really enjoy hearing our story and told me that she looks forward to K visas coming to her window. She also seemed to find it hilarious that I had "hat hair" on my police certificate photograph :P

She took all of my fingerprints and one passport photo (I had already attached photos to the DS-1156s when I sent them in). She gave me the CD containing my chest x-ray and said that I *must* have it with me when I enter the US. She then told me that the next person I spoke to would be "an American officer" and that he would ask me pretty much the same questions that she had. So it was a bit like a rehearsal!

She then took all of the stickers off of my interview letter and stuck several to my file in various places. She also stuck one to a pink courier sheet and gave it to me to fill out while I waited for the next window.

I then sat and waited for what seemed like two billion years, but was actually an hour and 45 minutes. I started to get a bit worried when the number after mine was called up for the second interview, but my call came not long after that.

At the second window I was greeted by a tall-ish American chap with a grey beard. At first he seemed a little gruff but he actually turned out to be friendly and chatty once we got going. The first thing he had me do was fill out the bottom of the DS-156K with "the name of Ms. Wonderful" (his words) and my signature. I guess it was another test to see if I knew her name! After that he took my fingerprints to confirm my identity and then had me raise my right hand and say "yes" after he asked if I swore to tell the truth. He then asked some basic questions about the forms and noted that it was a good thing I had my German police certificate because the person who as in before me hadn't had one. I told him that I had obsessed over every detail of my file and he seemed to like that.

He then asked about my job (and then asked me to explain exactly what it was), and also about Cassie's job. Near the end he also said "Oh. You didn't meet online did you?" as if it was something he had meant to ask earlier. I said that we hadn't, and he looked very relieved and said "Oh good!", which seemed a little odd. We then chatted for a minute or two about the advantages and disadvantages of meeting people online. He said that they get a lot of people who have, which isn't a big surprise these days. After that he told me about the brown envelope and asked me if I had the pink courier form. When he saw that I did he told me to go and pay the courier. And that was that!

I got out of the embassy at 11.30 and made a beeline for Gould Pharmacy to retrieve my phone so I could call Cassie and tell her that we had been approved!

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
