Embassy Review : Interview for myself & my daughter (K1 & K2 visa)
My interview was at 8.30am &I got there a little early. The building was easy to find. We went up the elevator and there were a few people waiting to go through security...I wasn't quite sure where to stand because I didn't realise they were standing in a line since it curled around a bit, and the guard told me off and pointed where I should go. When it was my turn he asked to see my letter for my appointment, which I had ready. Then he said I couldn't bring my handbag in, or my cellphone so I had to give him that to put in the locker, but he let me take in my big plastic bag full of "evidence" and other paperwork (after being x-rayed). Luckily I grabbed my interview fee cash out of my handbag before he took it, otherwise I would have had to come back for it later.

Then I had to go through the door to talk to the lady behind the counter. She was really nice, she explained everything that would happen, and took my fingerprints. There was a bit of an issue with that, the machine just refused to read my prints! She tried over and over, and had to come around my side of the counter to give it a clean in case it was smudged, but it still wouldn't work. Eventually it did after probably 10 more tries!

Then she pointed me to the window where I had to pay my fee. One thing I wasn't clear about, was whether there was a seperate fee for my daughters K2 Visa. I had read on here that there was, but my interview letter had only mentioned the one fee amount, so I brought enough cash for both just incase. It turned out that I DID in fact need it, and the K1 & K2 fee were the same amount ($420ish each). That was a very expensive morning!!

Then I had to wait in the chairs for my turn to be interviewed.

It was quite a long wait, nearly everyone else got seen before me, even the ones that had been waiting for less time, so I was getting more and more nervous, especially since the interviews were being done right next to the seats and you can hear everything they're saying!

Finally one of the Interviewers called my name and I went up to the little window. He was quite pleasant, he asked me some questions like how did we meet, what Ben does, what his parents do, and when he saw I was going to Iowa he laughed and said "it must be love!!". It was all pretty quick, and then he said thankyou and I could go now....I asked him if that was it, and was I accepted? And he smiled and said yes I'll receive the passports back in 2 days. I felt a bit stunned and overwhelmed at that point but it was very exciting!!

They did arrive by courier 2 days later, with the mysterious brown envelopes and some instructions.

Overall the experience was good, a bit scary though (especially the guard) and I was relieved when it was over
Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
