Comments : At Davyd's interview (June 26), the interviewer did not have his medicals. After Davyd told him that we had a tracking number showing delivery 6 days earlier, the interviewer said they were probably "in the back." This caused our case to go into "administrative review" for a week before it was changed to "approved" today (July 3). We are hoping it will be mailed out immediately so we don't have to change travel plans.

UPDATE: The package was mailed out by DHL on July 8th and arrived the next morning, July 9!

Consulate Review: South Africa
Review Topic: General Review
Event Description
Review Date : June 26, 2024
Embassy Review : Davyd arrived early for his 9:30 interview, and was called in early at 9:10. He stayed at the nearby Blackbrick hotel, which was lovely and very close to the Consulate.

The interview lasted less than 10 minutes and was very straight forward.

Questions were all standard - how and when did you meet?, when did you start speaking romantically?, what do you and your fiancé do for work?, have you met one another’s families?, how many times have you visited one another?, what do you love about your fiancé?, when you visited your fiancé in the US, where did you stay and did you do any paid work while there?, how, when, and where did you propose?, have you made wedding plans?, what do you plan to do for work once in the US? …

Then the evidence of relationship was briefly reviewed (dated photos, passport stamps, flights/hotel/uber receipts, messages, etc.) along with my I-134 financial support form and accompanying docs, and other required documents.

The interviewer then advised that once the visa was issued it should not take longer than 2 weeks to be delivered by DHL (although the timelines with DHL so far have been extremely quick). He also placed a “cancellation” stamp on Davyd’s B2 Visitor’s Visa, because he said you cannot have two different types of active visas at once.

The only outstanding thing was the review of Davyd’s medical results, which were shown as “delivered” by DHL tracking back on June 20, but had not yet confirmed as received by the Consulate. The interviewer said they probably are just “in the back” and that they should be reviewed and the administrative processing completed soon. Dr. Brauer in Cape Town indicated to Davyd that the results were all good with no issues, so fingers crossed the review process happens in the next day or so! Our case is showing “refused” on CEAC, but indicates that it will remain refused until administrative processing is completed. I have read everywhere that “refused” for admin processing does not mean denied, but just means it is pending issuance while any outstanding docs are reviewed.

Hey there! I see we were sent to the embassy on the same day. Curious to know if you happened to receive your instruction email yet? And if not, are you waiting for it before submitting DS 160 and scheduling interview?
Mcase on 2024-05-31 said:
Actually I have no idea if it has been sent to the embassy. I only got the Case Number, Invoice ID, and Beneficiary ID after submitting a public inquiry, and only figured out which day my case was created by doing the “Julian Calendar” breakdown I read about here of the Case Number (JHN2024642001): 2024; 500+142 = 642, where 142 day of the year is May 21st; case position 001. I truly hope that on the same day they created the case, they also sent to the embassy, but I still haven’t received a K1-FTP email or letter. I’ve sent them another inquiry asking if it has been sent, so fingers crossed!

And yes, we already did the DS-160 (apparently they are good for a year so you can just go ahead and do it as long as you expect the details to remain the same) and the police certificate. The Cape Town doctor also allowed us to set up a medical appointment without the interview already scheduled which was awesome(those are apparently good for 6 months).

Oh! I totally misread your timelinem I thought you were shipped on the 21st. I was actually shipped on the 21st. The embassy has my petition and the status is ready as of yesterday. But still no email.

Yay - just got the K1-FTP letter saying our package was sent to the embassy today! (I like to think it was because of my multiple harassing inquiries, ha!)

What time were you notified? I'm trying to see if I had anything sent out...
Hplusj on 2024-06-04 said:
Also how much harassment did you do? Would love any pointers on how to engage with Johannesburg. I've been having zero success.

Re NVC: I sent a few inquiries in the last few weeks to get my Case Number and Invoice ID, but when I still hadn't received any K1-FTP letter, I sent a third inquiry (5/28/2024) asking whether a K1-FTP would be issued and whether they had sent our case to the embassy. They finally responded this morning with the K1-FTP attached and said that the package was mailed out today to NVC. I also checked https://ceac.state.gov/CEACStatTracker/Status.aspx a few minutes ago and got a drop-down message that our package is "In Transit." Re JHB Embassy: I got a very quick response from JohannesburgIV@state.gov. I emailed them a week or so ago asking whether they had received our petition (this was when I still wasn't sure whether NVC had sent anything). Within a matter of hours I got a response that they hadn't gotten anything yet. Hopefully once our package is there, we're able to schedule the interview as quickly as possible.

Edit: mailed out today to Joburg*

I will try the NVC inquiry again, this time for a K1-FTP. Here's hoping it goes in the next batch. :(

Mcase- following your timeline seeing that we both nvc the same day. Waiting for instructions from embassy so that I can book the appointment. Have you received an email yet? I sent the embassy a message and they responded within 5 minutes stating they are waiting to receive the physical file ? I assumed when case was READY that they had the physical file. Guess not
Mcase on 2024-06-13 said:
Same! I see a “ready” notification and we tracked the package so we know it got there, but no instructions email from embassy yet. My fiancé is going to send them an email as a nudge in the morning to confirm receipt and ask about scheduling.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
