Embassy Review : I went to a side window at the embassy first to show my paperwork (DS160 confirmation page, letters from the embassy, passport) outside the building. There's a security building at 'Visa Services'. Once I showed her that, I went to the main door, and was asked to open my phone and click on an app/use it to show it worked. I was let in, they looked briefly through my backpack, I went through airport style security and was then let into the main building. At the reception I showed the same paperwork as at the first window and she put a receipt and ticket number on it before directing me to the lifts nearby and to go left and left again when I got up there.
I entered a waiting room area with five booths on one side, waited until my number was called, and then went through paperwork with the man there. He had a list of what he needed and so I didn't end up giving a lot of what I had (I brought a lot in case!). Passport, birth certificate, police certificate, evidence of name change (I brought my parents marriage certificate), affidavit of support (I took a wageslip, bank page summary, letter confirming his employment status and pay, and the I-134), and letter of intent were what I ended up being asked for, he asked if I'd served in the military or been married before but neither applied.

Paperwork given over, I sat back down and waited for the same number to be called. There, a different window, I was asked some questions. The main one was an issue with my name being different, as apparently in the US you can't just take on a name after parents marriage, but with my confirmed age when they married and it being a UK accepted thing it went ahead and she just told me to remember this being different in the US. Some questions about where we met (a forum, she asked which forum) and when we first met in person, and then asked to confirm a place I'd been that we sent photographs of before. She also asked what I did (I said I didn't work, she said this was okay) and if I'd like to work in the US (which I said I wasn't sure, she said this was also okay) and then she stamped things and told me it was approved and I should have my visa in a few days.

Ultimately I worried and stressed a lot, but it turned out alright and they were all nothing but polite and helpful. I have a lot of excess paperwork and copies of it now but it's all good to take just in case, I did not expect the name-difference would come up but I'm glad to have taken that marriage certificate in case of it. Good luck!
Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
