Consulate Review: London, United Kingdom
Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa
Event Description

Embassy Review : DH [Mr. Idu] had is interview yesterday. Below is his review:

A rainy day in London, as usual.

The interview process was very easy. Every step of the way, embassy staff are nice and very efficient. The whole process (arrival to leaving) took about an hour.

Arrived 30 minutes prior to the interview scheduled time. If you arrive too early security will make you wait and come back. 30 minutes was the sweet spot. Whatever gate arrived at they will direct you to the correct gate for your circumstances. Didn’t bring laptop/tablet, as they don’t allow them. Only brought cell phone.

First stage interview occurred immediately and lasted about 15 minutes. The officer asked for and reviewed the civil documents paperwork and the passport. This was to certify the copies. This is also where they
took the 2019 tax return. Fingerprints taken here.

*There was a bit of a snafu with uploading 2019 taxes, but we had copies on hand. In the interview email letter it asks you to upload and/or bring 2019 taxes if you hadn’t already submitted them (but had provided a reason for not submitting them at the NVC stage, which we did). Before the interview, we uploaded them, but weren’t sure to hit submit. So if you’re in this boat, hit submit when you do this so it’s there already (but also bring two copies just incase!).

However, everything we needed was there, as our documents were uploaded electronically. Told to take a seat and wait for the next stage interview part. Waited for approximately 20 minutes, but this was mostly because the person before was telling a very long narrative to the next officer.

The second stage interview also lasted about 15 minutes. Fingerprints were also taken here. This is where the officer asked questions about our relationship and then approved us for the visa. Was handed document that gives details about immigrating to the USA. Also told that we would receive the passport with visa in 1-2 weeks.

Overall, probably waited less than 30 minutes in total, during the whole interview. The bulk of which was waiting to get into the building and waiting for the second stage interview to happen.

Advice for those getting ready:
Go prepared, follow the guidelines on the embassy website, email, and this forum. What takes people long (at least during covid-19 times) is not having their documents and/or other things ready when asked.
Rating : Very Good

POE Review: Chicago
Event Description
Entry Date : 2020-01-01
Embassy Review : Very easy. Honestly, easier to enter here than leaving London.

Immigration officer stamped the passport page next to the visa and wrote the a-number again.

Total time was about 5 minutes.

Would recommend Chicago airport as a POE, as they are often so efficient and courteous. Gotta love that Midwestern charm!
Harassment Level : Low

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
