Hi guys! Are you doing a direct consular file? I was trying to make sense of the dates on your timeline. :)

Hi there. I'm not completely sure what you mean about a direct consular file.... we are both abroad in South Africa and I'm submitting everything online and will be doing the interview in Johannesburg. I hope I've inputted the dates correctly into the timeline.. it's possible I haven't though.

Direct consular file means that you submitted everything for immigration through the consulate in Johannesburg as opposed to submitting your documents directly to USCIS. :) Normally, you are waiting for several months for the I-130 to be approved by the USCIS before the case is sent to the NVC and then finally the consulate. If you do a DCF, the process is typically much shorter as they will turn around and send the documents for approval straight back to the consulate. This is only possible when the petitioner lives in the country where the immigration interview will take place. ^_^

Honestly, didn't even know that was an option. We just did everything online since we both live in South Africa, and it went through NVC. It didn't take too long for the I-130 to be approved, thankfully, but now we have no idea how long the wait might be to get our consulate interview date.

Did you guys ever hear back from the NVC about your case?

We only just heard back about finally being documentarily approved on Jan 5, 2022... now we are waiting for further instructions and an interview date. No idea about the current interview wait times for our type of visa.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
