On March 12th we were sent an email from the NVC letting us know that our interview date in the DR would be for Tuesday April 16th, 2019. My husband flew down on March 21st to give himself plenty of time do the medical exam and the biometrics appointment. We arrived at our 8am scheduled interview at roughly 7:15am, there was a VERY long line, fortunately we were able to go into the US citizen line and we went right through security to the next building where the interview takes place. It was a little confusing at first but there are people that direct you where to sit and give you a number for your case. The first step after receiving the number was to wait in line to pass in our documents, this went pretty fast as they had numerous windows open. We were asked for his birth certificate, police certificate, my current taxes, and an updated affidavit of support. We had already sent all of these documents ahead of time through the NVC but we were still asked again for them. She opened our folder and there were all of our documents that were indeed sent by the NVC, she still kept the duplicates we brought with us. She directed us to go back and sit down and wait until our number is called. This was the excruciating part, we were one of the last couples to be called up to the window (it was roughly 11am when we were called.) I suspect the IO had already viewed our case and a determination was made prior to our interview. Not many questions were asked and unfortunately there was an issue with their computer (My Husband before he met me 15+ years ago had filed a k1 visa but before they had even interviewed they broke it off because they just weren't compatible) it was still in the system and needed a supervisor to remove it so we could proceed with our case. We were promptly handed a white 221g and my husbands passport back and told the issue should be resolved in 2 weeks. I think the "interview" part maybe lasted 5-7 minutes. We let the IO know that our son had impending surgery on June 7th and we were assured that things would progress rapidly and not to worry, that our case looked good and the only issue was that previous k1 visit still in their system. I was still full of worry and also anxiety..... On the CEAC website our case status changed from AP to Ready to AP to Ready to AP and finally to Issued on May 14th. The wait was unbearable and I did ask for my senator to get involved, which they did on my behalf on May 10th. All in all the embassy was fast and everyone we came in contact with was very nice and understanding. That is why I will rate my experience a 5. As for the whole process, I would rate it a 2, there is a lot of paperwork, a lot of fees, and a lot of waiting. If you have any questions I would be happy to answer them.
