Embassy Review : Reading other experiences on the website, it seems a lot of the time the whole interview process in London is short, unfortunately this wasn’t the case for me.

I arrived far too early (10am for 11am appointment), so sat outside and had a snack before approaching the south entrance 20 minutes before my appointment time. There was no line so I handed over my passport and DS-160 confirmation page, then got sent through the airport security building.

After leaving into the courtyard outside the embassy building, I was told by the lady out front to go straight to the front of the line, so I went left of the two long lines coming out of the door, walked inside and headed straight to the reception table.

The lady there took my DS-160, stuck some stickers on it, including my the number I’d use to be called up to the windows inside, then told me to take the lift to the first floor. When you walk out of the lift you’ll be greeted by a huge groom full of people and visa windows, don’t sit here, turn left and then left again at the end of the building until you reach a smaller waiting room, this is where you’ll need to wait.

After 10 minutes I was called to my first window where a nice but stern man asked me for my passport, DS-160, police clearance cert and birth certificate. He then asked for my fiancé’s affidavit and nothing else! I was surprised because I had a ton of evidence including letters from her employer, pay stubs and tax returns etc, but nope just the one form. He then asked me where we had met, then ran down a list of really generic questions like if I’ve served in the army, have I lived in the U.K. all my life etc. He handed me back a sealed envelope from the doctors and I was told to sit down and wait for my interview.

This is where things got really boring as I sat waiting from 11am till 12:50pm....

There were only two windows out of about six or seven conducting interviews and one other calling people up for documents, so it was certainly slow going. I guess more than just K-1 visas are also processed in the small waiting room I was in, because there were a lot of family units doing interviews and a lot of people with complications taking a ton of time to finish. But finally, after nearly two hours my number came up on the big flat screen TVs and it was my turn to be interviewed!

The whole interview was a breeze, I was with another guy and it lasted maybe 5 minutes. He asked:

How did you guys meet?
(To which he asked some more questions as a result of my reply)
How often do you get to see each other?
When was the last time you saw her?

And that was it.. I heard the words we’ve both been waiting months for:

‘We’re going to ahead and approve that visa for you’.

Apart from the fact it took an age, the whole process was easy and there was no pressure at all.
I was very surprised they didn’t ask me for more evidence (we did submit 170 pages of evidence with our I129F, and we got some pictures back at the end of the interview), but I’d still advise you do as I did and have as much evidence to support your case as possible when it’s your turn to attend the interview!

To exit after, just take the same lift down as you came in on and walk back through the entrance - easy!

Stay strong everyone and good-luck at your interview!

POE Review: Atlanta
Event Description
Entry Date : 2019-08-01
Embassy Review : Picked out a single way flight with a long connection time which turned out to be a good idea. The lines at customs were substantial by the time I'd exited the plane and asked the helpful ushers on where to line up. It would seem there were multiple aircraft arriving in the international terminal with us from London at the same time, and I found myself stood in line for around an hour despite pretty much all the border booths being occupied by officers (mostly dealing with Disneyland tourists). As expected from reading other reviews, once I finally made it to the front and a booth, I handed over my sealed envelope and passport whilst telling the officer I was a K1 visa applicant, which he seemed to appreciate. He took a picture of me, then led me to the secondary area where another officer called me up after 5 minutes. He asked me: What are you in the United States to do this trip, do you know how long this visa lets you stay, what are you going to do if you don't marry in 90 days and finally if I resided in the UK. What was funny, and something which kind of undermined the officer's serious approach to questioning me, was his supervisor stood behind him. He recognized the sports shirt I was wearing and since he was born in the same small town in Kansas as the team, he started asking me joke questions relating to their football team, and if I'd tried certain burger joints in the town, at was all rather funny honestly. I wasn't ever worried I was going to be denied, especially with the funny supervisor, once the stern officer was satisfied with my answers, he handed me a sheet of paper which outlined the adjustment of status timeline, then welcomed me to the United States!

Hey there! I was never notified you commented on my review, I'm so sorry! Hopefully you got through okay and wore your Chiefs shirt haha If by the off chance you haven't yet, 2 hours should be plenty of time. Sorry again I wish I'd seen your comment!

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
