Comments : I was unable to travel with my husband to the US. From what my husband said, it was pretty tough for him. He flew in from Dominican Republic to Atlanta for his layover and he said not a soul spoke in Spanish. He did not experience any problems with them verifying his immigration status and everything went well with the officer. Luckily, on the plane he made a friend who was going to the same city as him after Atlanta , so that person helped him out a bit and they communicated through a translator. But he still said the experience was extremely uncomfortable, as this was his first time leaving his country and getting on a plane.

Embassy Review : Overall, our interview experience was flawless. Our interview was scheduled for 7:30, but we arrived about 20 minutes late. Being late did not affect anything, although we would have liked to be on time. We parked in a lot for about 200 pesos and was directed to this office that holds your items that are prohibited to take with you into the embassy. The office was professional and gave us are receipt for our things for a small fee. We then walked for about 3 minutes to the embassy, stood in line for a couple of minutes and went through security. We then were escorted past the metal benches to go inside. It’s freezing in there as well so bring a sweater! At the first window we presented the police record and birth certificate. Then they gave us a number and the waiting began! We were waiting for like three hours.. or at least it felt that way. We had seen a lot of happy faces because of approval, but we seen a few denials too. The faces said it all. Needless to say, estabamos tan nerviosos. They call our number and my then fiancé (beneficiary) went up to the window alone first due to wanting to ask if our 5 month son and I could accompany him. I know, stupid question. Anyway before my fiancé could ask, the interviewer seemed really disappointed that he was alone and asked why his family-us-didn’t accompany him for such an important interview. My fiancé then said we were waiting to come to the window and the interviewer’s face lit up and his attitude immediately changed. The interviewer told us to come on up and then the interview began. The interview was in Spanish, which I believed worked in our favor, as my fiancé can only speak in Spanish. It showed that we actually can communicate without a huge language barrier. My fiancé was asked how we met (the interviewer was quite entertained by our love story lol), where I worked, how long we had been together, and how old our son was. The interviewer only asked me how I knew Spanish so well. The interviewer then asked if we had any evidence and we pulled out a huge binder of pictures with comments explaining our love story. After flipping through 2-3 pages, we were approved! We were not asked for form I-134 or any other supporting documents regarding finances. The interview took about 5 minutes. The interviewer was so pleasant and personable. It was so quick, it was unreal. If my fiancé was alone the interview would have been more intense, so I advise that the petitioner comes with the beneficiary to the interview at all costs!
Rating : Very Good
