I had an appointment scheduled 12:30pm, I turned up at 12:10pm.
I was sent to a woman who was outside security, she was checking interview appointment letters against a sheet with people's names on, I assume a "Name not on the list, you're not getting in" sort of set up. The security woman placed a sticker with a bar-code on my appointment letter and then told me to go to security.
Security was easy, it's like airport security, I had left a glass bottle in my bag from a coffee I had drank earlier in the day which was picked up by security, they told me to throw it away, unfortunately the nearest bin is in Grosvenor Square park so I had to take a short walk to throw it away.
I walked round to the right hand side of the embassy, up some steps and reported to reception, at this point I was assigned an I number. Reception told me to walk up the steps to the left and sit at the front of the hall until my number was called. The hall wasn't busy and as I was walking to the front of the hall my number was called before I could sit. I went straight to the kiosk instead.
At the kiosk the representative asked for my paperwork (Passport, Birth Certificate, Marriage Certificate, Police Certificate, 2x Photos, Affidavit of Support, my Wife's Last Tax Return and evidence of her current wage/employment), the rep then asked me to write my name on the back on one of the photos and put it in a plastic bag (seemed odd but I'm sure there's a reason). The rep then asked a few questions at this point:
- What does my wife do for work?
- Where will I live in the US?
The rep then gave me an orange piece of paper with a box ticked (didn't pay a great deal of notice what was on it) told me to go to kiosk 12 and pay a fee of $425 then bring the receipt back to her. Off I went to kiosk 12, paid my fee and took the receipt back to the rep (Make sure you give them the correct one, it says which one they want on it). The rep then told me to take a seat again and wait to be called to my interview.
Took a seat, and watched the board for my number, I don't think I had been there very long maybe 10-15 minutes so far, after a 20-30 minute wait my number was called for interview (I think they was only interviewing at two kiosks). I turned up to the kiosk, and the rep asked me the following questions:
- What is your wife's name?
- What does your wife do for work?
- How did you meet your wife?
- How long have we been together?
- How long have we been married?
- What will I do for work?
The rep then checked some boxes and signed a few parts of his folder, then told me my visa was approved and I would receive my passport in the next 10-15 days. I asked if there was anything else I needed to do, he said there wasn't and that I just had to follow the exit signs.
All in all a pleasant experience, a lot less stressful than I expected it would be. Waiting for my passport to come back to me now  |
