Comments : received RFE letter in mid July 2016 requesting Costa Rican birth certificate in English. This is extremely frustrating due to the fact USCIS, CBP, etc. has this information in their computer systems already! I was told that the sealed packet containing official copy of birth certificate translated in English @ POE ATL airport was processed and submitted to USCIS.

We received an update from USCIS on September 15, 2016; "we certified the approval of you Form I-485 and sent it to the appropriate appellate office. That office will send you a final decision."

Consulate Review: Costa Rica
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : November 29, 2015
Embassy Review : I (U.S. Citizen) was warned by gringo and tico amigos that if I didn't attend the K-1 Visa interview with my Costa Rican fiance then the embassy staff would harass, discriminate, and embarrass my fiance for being a same-sex K-1 Visa applicant. I didn't believe this would happen but unfortunately it did! One (Asian-American male officer) out of the three officers asked my same-sex fiance extremely inappropriate personal questions about his sexuality. For example; Are you really gay? You don't look gay to me. How long have you been gay? Where do gay Costa Ricans hang out and hook up? How long have you been having sex with other males? Do you wear dresses and makeup? Why do you want to be gay? Why don't you enjoy sex with girls? These questions are out of line and irrelevant to a K-1 Visa interview! A formal complaint to the State Department will be filed for this officer.

POE Review: Atlanta
Event Description
Entry Date : 2016-03-04
Embassy Review : fiance arrived from SJO (Costa Rica) to ATL (Atlanta) @ 7 pm on Fri. evening and greeted me (big hug) @ 9:30 pm. The line @ Immigration/Customs was long as expected @ ATL airport but everything went smoothly. The USCIS agents were professional regarding the K1 process. They did keep the sealed packet which is unfortunate b/c my fiance didn't make copies of everything and now I must file a G-884 request for original documents so I can file for AOS Green Card before the Visa expires.
Harassment Level : Low

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
