After a 6-month wait, i finally had my N400 interview today at the DC field office in Fairfax, VA. My interview was scheduled at 11:40 am and my husband and I arrived around 11:20 am. We waited for about 10 minutes and my name was called. I asked the officer if I should get my husband, he said no need and took me to his office.
On to the interview, he seemed not to bother with my GC and DL, I took them out from my backpack and placed them on the desk but he didn't not even take a peek of them. He requested to take picture of me and went directly into the reading test, writing and civil test.
Reading: Who is George Washington
Writing: Washington is the first President
Civil: We elect a US Representative for how many years? 2 years
In what month do we vote for President? November
The house of Representative has how many voting members? 435
Who is the Chief Justice of the US now? John Roberts
Name one war fought by the US in the 1900s? WWI
Sorry forgot the last one. Some are difficult questions if you don't study the booklet.
He did a lot of typing when I was answering these questions. He also asked if I ever got arrested or deported by the US government, didn't ask me anything about the traffic citation. After that he asked me to give my signature on the screen. It almost seemed like the interview was over. I paused him and asked if I could still do a name change (I said no on the form). He said great, we can do it today, right now. I asked if it will delay the oath ceremony as I saw it online that the name change to delay the process by 3-4 months. He laughed out loud (not kidding, he really laughed loudly) and said don't trust the internet. I then asked when i could expect my Oath Ceremony and he answered about 2 months. He then proceed with my name change and asked my to confirm both old and new name on the screen. I think I provided my signature 2-3 times in total at the end. That's it. The total time was less than 15 minutes. I'd say if i didn't request for the name change, it could have ended within 10 minutes. |

Embassy Review : |
My interview was on June 10.
The entire interview process is relative simple and easier than I expected although I waited outside of the embassy for a good 45 minutes.
The first guy I met was a Chinese who mainly to ensure the completeness of all my supporting documents. He only asked me how I met my hubby, what he does and requested for some photos of us. That's it!! Nothing tricky.
The second guy I met was a Caucasian and he is the real Officer who tells you whether he would approve your application. He was very straight forward and told me my case look good and he would approve it within the next day to two.
Yay....and I thought my VISA process ends here, but guess what!!!!!
I found it on Jun 15 that they are not able to issue my visa due to some technical issue with all the VISA systems overseas. I am very upset and disappointed about this as I am supposed to attend my sis-in-law's wedding on the 20th in the US. Well....life sometimes is full of surprises and we can only deal with it.
Good luck to everyone else who is going thru the same process.
Cheers,
Mrs. S

Timeline Comments: 2My interview was in 30 Nov 2018 ,The officer said you should get your oath ceremony letter in next 2 -3 weeks but I don’t get any letter.
How about your case? And when is next oath ceremony date? Is it just once in a month in fairfax?

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
