Comments : The officer that took my paperwork at LAX was incredibly rude, almost unbelievably so. He spoke to me as if I was a child that didn't understand English. I was very taken aback, but felt that I couldn't stand up for myself because of the situation. I didn't want anything I said to cause this man to make problems with my visa. It's so sad that we must feel this way and give these rude officers such power, but that's why they feel they can speak to us this way. I'm sure they don't ordinarily speak to people this way. I left the desk in tears by the end of it.

Either way, I'm glad it's all over. It's just a shame that my 'welcome' to America was so abysmal and upsetting.

Embassy Review : I arrived at the London embassy at around 7.30am. My appointment was at 8.30am, not that it really mattered - I think they just use those as a guideline because my number didn't get called for the first time until about 9.30am.

There was already a big queue at the tents outside when I arrived. I waited in line for a while until one of the stewards checked my paper and saw I was an Immigrant Visa case. She told me to go to the front of the line but then I just joined a second long line to get into the embassy, so it didn't make much difference.

Went through security, then walked through to the reception desk where they generated my ticket number and printed this on a series of stickers that they stuck to my appointment letter. Don't touch those stickers - they use them for your files when you go to the window to submit your documents.

I sat down in the massive waiting hall and watched the screen where the ticket numbers come up like everyone else. It is a bit like a massive post office, with window booths where the workers sit. Your interview is done standing up at one of these booths - nothing like I expected!

About an hour later, my number came up and I went to a window where a lady took my fingerprints, asked me the date of my marriage, scanned the passport photos I brought and got all of my papers in order. She then told me to go back to the waiting area and wait for my number to be called again, this time for my interview.

I waited a further hour and a bit, then around 11.15am my number came up and I went to another window. The lady there (MUCH nicer than the first lady!) said that this is my interview, asked me to raise my right hand and take an oath that everything I'm about to say is the truth. After that, she asked me what the date of my marriage is, how did my husband and I meet, where I'll be living when I move, when am I planning to move and then what rank is my husband (he's in the air force, which obviously came up when I explained how we met). As I was answering she was typing things on to the computer and doing things with my documents.

After those 5 short questions, she looked up and me and said "that's it, you should have your visa in about 2 weeks once we receive the confirmation about the 2 vaccines you're getting from your doctor". I said, "does that mean it's approved?' she smiled and said "yep! that's it!".

The whole thing lasted 4 minutes!!!! I texted my husband at 11.12am when I was going to the window and again at 11.16am as I was walking away. It's crazy that the last 10 months of waiting and anxiety and stress all culminated in 4 minutes of conversation with a lady at a window booth!

I'm looking forward to receiving my passport back with the visa now! Those vaccines I need to complete my medical are being done on Monday so hopefully they'll process everything quickly after that.

It's a good tip to know that if you don't happen to have a vaccine that they want you to have at the medical, you DO have the option to go back to your doctor and have it done for free instead of them doing it for you. You just have to email or fax them the record once it's done. Same goes for any medical records they might need. The doctor at Knightsbridge Doctors told me that the medical isn't a pass or fail thing, they really just want the info for their records so that they can write an informed report on you for the embassy (unless you have severe mental health issues or other red flags).

SO glad this whole journey is OVER!!!!

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
