Consulate Review: Auckland, New Zealand
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : November 20, 2014
Embassy Review : Was a fairly pleasant experience at the Auckland consulate. I (the petitioner) joined my fiancé for his interview because I was in the country with him at the time.
We went to the city group building about 40 minutes before our appointment, and went through security and had no issue at all even though there was some debate if I would be allowed in. We went up the window and met B, who I have been emailing and calling for the past 11 months so was nice to finally put a face to the voice. She was very very nice and said I was super organised over and over again and how it made our case very easy. She gave us the option to pick up our visa by hand an basically said we were approved, even before we had down the interview. Our medical results still had not arrived yet and she said that wouldn't be an issue.
We then took a seat, and waited for nearly 2 hours. There are no clocks in there so time went fairly quickly and we talked to another man who lives in Vermont as well. Everything was a bit out of order with the timing certain people were being interviewed so that was a bit frustrating. There was only one person doing the interviews until another woman came and started doing them to which made it a bit faster.
My fiancé was finally called up and was asked how we met and how long we had been together in person for. The man told my fiancé he was from Vermont as well so they had some small talk about that for a bit since it is such a small state. Technically our visa was approved, but they needed the medical in hand so it was a refusal. But our medical arrived hours after we left so we are all set and are on our way back to the states next week!
Rating : Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
