Consulate Review: United Arab Emirates
Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : September 5, 2013
Embassy Review : My Husbands interview for his CR1 visa was scheduled on September 4th 2013, in the Abu Dhabi consulate. He arrived there about 20 minutes before his time and saw a long line. Once he was inside there were 16 interviews scheduled at the time he was there. Once inside they collected his documents (interview letter and all that)had fingerprints done, and sat down to wait. He was called up for the initial questioning, and he was asked who is applying for him and something else but I don't remember what. Then he was asked to be seated again. Two hours into the process, he got called up for his actual interview. He was asked to take an oath and he did. The CO was a Caucasian American man. My husband had taken loads and loads of proof.(Facebook chats, skype logs, pictures, yahoo chats, phone records, reference letters, gifts, western union receipts and more) Since we had met online and only spent a week together in person, we were almost sure that he wouldn't get the visa. But my husband remained calm and confident, because he knew we weren't lying about anything. He spread the proof across the counter at the window he was about to be interviewed at. The man asked him almost 15 questions! javascript:emoticon('') He was only expecting a few. But because of our relationship I guess, he had to ask alot. My husband is a Pakistani national, but was born in the UAE..so we were expecting them to give him a hard time. javascript:emoticon('')I am an American Citizen with a Indian background. Out of what my husband could remember this is what the CO asked:

1. Who was filing for him?
2. Where his spouse lived?
3. Who his spouse lived with?
4. Where he was employed?
5. Why we only met for a short time?
6. Why we didn't meet again after the wedding?
7. If he ever applied for an American visa?

(he couldn't remember the rest)

Then he asked to see a few wedding pictures, and looked through them quickly and handed them back. At the end my husband tried to show him a reference letter we had, but the CO said he didn't need to see it. My husband thought he might not get the visa, because the CO seemed to not really be listening to what my husband was saying. Then at the end of it, he told my husband he is approved and to register for the Empost Service and he should receive his visa in a few days! javascript:emoticon('') Alhamdulilah!

Hopefully this give all you some hope! Me and my husband met online, only spend a week together, he had an overstayed visa in the UK, he had applied for the US before and got rejected..and still got his visa on the first try! And we didn't lie about anything.

Tell the truth, take a lot of proof even if they look at it or not, be confident and smile, and pray! If it could happen with us, it can happen with anyone javascript:emoticon('')
