Consulate Review: Dominican Republic
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : November 27, 2013
Embassy Review : We arrived at 5:30A and there were already four couples in line. We were let in around 6:45A. They separated us into males and females after we handed our appointment letter and were given a number. Our number was 227. We went through security, which included patting us down.

At around 11:30A, we were called to window 17 for his passport, form DS-160 confirmation page, DS-157K (which we had to complete because we did not bring), the two Banco Popular receipts and the police report. They did not ask for my affidavit or any other forms. We were told to pay $80 at window 14 and sit down.

About 20 minutes later, they called my fiancé by name to return to window 17. We were told that there was a mistake on DS-160; we did not include his middle name. We were given a green temporary pass to exit and return. We walked to a nearby Internet cafe where we made the change and printed the new confirmation page. After stopping at Helados Bon (que buenos son! lol), we returned to the consulate. We stood in line for 10-15 minutes and had to go through another security check. We were allowed to proceed directly to window 17; however, our officer was at lunch. A different officer approached the window, and we handed him the edited confirmation page along with my fiance's passport. Then we sat down.

We were then called about 30-45 minutes later for his fingerprints. That's when I saw the green approval ticket on top of our file. About 15-20 minutes later, we were called to window 26 for our interview. Please see interview questions below. He interviewed me in English and my fiancé in Spanish. He asked to see photos, and I showed him our Shutterfly album page by page. Then he looked in the computer, and told my fiancé sir your visa is approved. We proceeded to pay $11 to Domex and left at around 2:00P.

Interview
To me:
How did you meet? Where and when?
What are your plans for getting married?
When did you get engaged? Where?
Does he have family in USA? Who and where?
Do you have children? Does he?
How many children are you planning to have?

To him:
Same questions as above, plus:
Any church wedding plans?
Where does she live?
Where does she work?

Advice
Arrive early but that has no bearing on what time you will be called for for interview
Bring photos
Bring a snack and lunch
Do not bring cellphones
Purses and bags are allowed
Bring all forms and required evidence
Be organized
Be confident during your interview
Look at the officer in the eyes
Sit near the cafeteria as it's cooler there
Bring a book
Rating : Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
