Consulate Review: London, United Kingdom
Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : December 9, 2016
Embassy Review : It was slow getting into the Embassy. They ask you to be there at a certain time, but then only allow entry to people who are waiting for visitors visas, not immigrant. I arrived on time, but had to wait around 30-45 minutes before I was allowed to enter (I was 3rd in line, so not so bad). After clearing security, I was given my number at the desk, then entered the hall and took a seat. My number was first called after about 30 minutes. At this desk in the main hall, the lady checked all my information and instructed me to sit back down until called by an Immigration Officer.

After another 20 minutes, I was called again, this time to a window around the corner in a much quieter part of the Embassy. The gentlemen here had my file (which was about 2-3 inches thick). I noticed some government agency logos on some of the files that did not belong to the State Department... The man asked for my documentation, looked through it and then asked ONLY 3 questions. (1) How did you meet your wife? (2) Your wife's name is XYZ, correct? - Either he was mistaken or this was a trick question to try and catch me out. XYZ is my mother-in-law. I corrected him and he nodded as if it was a trick question! (3) What do plan to do as a job in the US?

That was it. He said congratulations and advised me not to book any travel until I received my passport with the immigrant visa. I would estimate less than 3 minutes at this window and done. Exiting the Embassy is much easier and faster than entering. I would estimate that I was at the Embassy for less than 2 hours total (including waiting outside for entry). Passport was ready to be picked up (locally) in about 8 days.
Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
