Biometrics Taken : Yes
Harassment Level : 5
Comments : He was held for 20 minutes being asked things like if he was cold, why he wanted to go to Arkansas instead of staying in the UK, to what day of the week is the wedding. He was tired and annoyed at how much they hassled him when everything had already been cleared.

Consulate Review: London, United Kingdom
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description

Embassy Review : I'm writing on behalf of my fiance who had his interview this morning and is already home!

He left for London on the 6:00am train from Luton. He arrived at the embassy about 10 past 7. There were about 4 people in line. By 7:30 there were about 60 people in line. His interview time was for 8:30 but got in line around 7:30 and wasn't hassled. He was about 8th in line. He was even told by the agent outside that you have a general time but it's more of a first come, first served basis.

When he was in line they asked to see his appointment letter and his passport. They were asking others about the DS-160 but didn't ask him about it. (Although I hear that it changing if you are filing past October 7th, 2013).

He says don't get too hung up on the security restrictions regarding sealed envelopes because as long as you have a carrier bag that is not opaque they will let you in. But they are not kidding about electronics, batteries (digital watches), or wires (ipod earphones) - they WILL make you get out of the queue.

Security was easy. He didn't have to take off his shoes or coat. We'd read the other reviews so he didn't wear a belt or rings or carry change. Basically, the line was just like at the airport.

Then he walked inside and was given a number and sat in a bit waiting room. There are refreshments available - at a price. His appointment letter was for 8:30 but he was called just after 8 and he went to the window and was greeted by a polite middle-aged American man. He asked him for:

Affidavit of support and my 2012 tax transcript
Police certificate
Birth certificate
Passport
Passport photos
Confirmation of MRV and courier fee receipt

He then took his fingerprints. The only question he was asked at that window was when did he intend to travel. He said ASAP but hadn't booked anything. Then he was told to take his same number and go back to the waiting room for the second part.

He waited about 15-20 minutes before his number was called. Pay attention because he talking with someone and then realized his number was up. The numbers don't come out in numerical order and they ping up every few seconds. He said don't worry if you don't see it immediately because they don't throw it out straight away, but do pay attention.

He went to the next window and was greeted by the famous African-American lady that was very friendly. She introduced the situation to him saying, "So Megan is a speech therapist then?" So it wasn't rapid fire questions. It was a relaxed conversation that you would experience if you were meeting someone for the first time and they asked about how you met, etc.

We did a very thorough job of collecting evidence and we've known each other for three years so we had plenty. He said preparation is the key because the interview was the easy part. He was asked only two questions:

1. How did we meet?

He told her online and then in person in London and things developed over 2 years. So he thinks that if you give a little more information and answer fully they don't ask very many.

2. Does Megan have any relatives living outside the United States? (I have a brother that lives in South Korea)

He answered fully and clearly and gave a little bit more information about my brother and the area he lives. Basic chit chat.

That was it. And she smiled and said, "Your visa is approved!" He thanked her, picked up his stuff, and left.

He was done in less than an hour and headed back to the train station before 9. He was home by 10am British time and called me at 4am Central time to tell me the great news. Now to just get him here!!

We didn't post much on here but this community was SO helpful to us. Thank you all for the support that you didn't even know you were giving. We appreciate you!

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
