Consulate Review: South Africa
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : November 19, 2013
Embassy Review : Arrived at the consulate and hour and a half early which was fine I was joiner by a few people not longer after. A few minutes before 1pm the security asked us to queue and get my passport and interview letter ready to enter into security check. All electronic devices will be left at security before entering the consulate.

The following was requested at the first window:

Passport,Passport photos,DS160,DS230(unsigned),DS156,DS156k,DS157,Unabridged birth certificate, police clearance, evidence to prove ongoing relationship. (I had a lever arch file full of photos, emails, skype, telephone print outs and whatsapp logs... All they looked at was skype messages and calls)

You will be asked to make a payment for a visa and return to the waiting area for your name to be called. about 20-30 minutes later and 1 Approved K1 Visa later it was my turn to be interviewed. I was asked the usual questions:

1. Where and how did I meet my now Fiance'?
2. When did I last see him.
3. Where does he work and his job specs
4. Have we met each others parents and how do they feel about us?
5. What are my plans in the US?
6. When do I plan on leaving? (Here I did mention my fiance' had already booked my flight and had my itinerary on hand to show the immigration officer)

Overall the interview was so quick and easy. I had expected it to be a drilling session and it turned out to be the complete opposite. All my relationship evidence was returned and instructions to call DHL given to me. I did however ask just to clarify if I had been approved and was told it was in the process. I received my passport with visa 5 days after my interview.

I can honestly say if you have all your paperwork in order and your relationship is legit it will be a smooth easy process at the consulate. Also they will more than likely only need a little of each type of communication you use but if you are unsure and want to be careful take as much as you think you will need.

Good Luck Guys and be sure to ask any questions if you need anymore info or clarification.
Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
