Embassy Review : After dropping off my phone etc at the pharmacy I arrived at the embassy around 7:15 (my appointment was at 8:30). There was a queue already, which was then separated into two. I then got my passport checked by the security guy, and went through to the security hut to have my bag scanned (just like at the airport!) I was then through into the embassy building. Walked up the stairs and into reception, was given my waiting number and directed to the left waiting room.

Once in, you take a seat and wait for your number to pop up on the screen. At the top of the waiting room there is a tuck shop with food and tea/coffee but I was far too nervous to go up and get anything!

After waiting around 20 minutes or so, my number flashed up on the screen. I had the unfortunate pleasure of being sent to booth 1, with the unfriendly Asian lady. She was extremely quiet, and had a habit of chucking back forms and papers at me once she was satisfied with them. I had my passport photos done at Walmart, and they were exactly as the requirements asked for. But she kept muttering the quality was rubbish and too shiny and did I have any others. Luckily I had a spare one in my folder from when we had sent off the initial package. She took it, and said that it was better, but then chucked it back at me. She then took my police form, birth certificate, passport and affadavit. Luckily I had a spare DS 160 on hand, because even though we sent in 2, she didn't seem to have them with her. Our affadavit was provided for by Dans aunt, who was born in the Philippines. Once she saw this, she raised her eyebrows and said "oh. Phillipeno" in a kind of rude, disgusted way. Running on only 3 hours sleep I can safely say it was very hard for me to bite my tongue at this point-but I somehow managed it. She asked me when I wanted to fly out, then I was told to sit back down and wait for my number to be called again.

I waited around 15 minutes to be called for the actual interview. Once my number popped up, I went to the assigned booth in trepidation, desperate to be interviewed by someone personable unlike the first toad I had dealt with. Just my luck! I was greeted by a warm African American lady who was so friendly and put me right at ease.

She asked me:
How did we meet?
When did we meet in person?
Do we like the same music?
When did he propose?
How did he propose?
Had we talked about it?
Have I met his family? (at this point i showed her some snaps we had taken of all of us together, pointing out who was who etc)

That was it! They hadn't received my medical results, even though I had the medical 6 days prior. But she conditionally accepted me, and said they will send me the visa back within 10 days. She explained the visa would be on a certain page of my passport, and would be in a pack with the POE brown envelope delivered by the courier. I thanked her about 750 times, ran to the pharmacy to get my phone, and text Dan the good news. Celebrated with a nice glass of wine and dinner with my best friend who so kindly dropped me off and waited around until I was done!

TIPS:
Wrap up warm, the wait outside could be anywhere from 5-25 minutes.
Have your passport and letter out ready for them to check
Make sure you put all phones, key fobs, headphones in the pharmacy beforehand (so many people were queuing up for ages until the staff told them they had to go drop stuff off)
If you are wearing a belt or carrying change they will ask you to put it in a plastic bag that they hand out
Have a chat with other people there waiting-it calms your nerves!
Bring copies of DS 160 with you just incase
Be polite and smile. Even if you end up getting the miserable Asian lady in the first round!
Rating : Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
