Event Description
Review Date : February 10, 2014
Embassy Review : First off I want to start by thanking GodsGift and Sarys you both provided a lot of guidance and helpful advice. As well as the entire DR Crew that provided reviews which were extremely beneficial for me! Any of those who would message me and give me support! Once I was there I felt like I knew every move that would come next and that feeling at that specific moment is priceless!

I arrived to DR 2/1, three days prior to the interview. Everything was pretty much done so I figured we would take these days to relax and enjoy ourselves. We did....I glanced at all the paperwork my fiance provided the banco popular receipts caught my attention for a bit and I did some math trying to figure out the totals but thought nothing of it...hahaha (you will understand my smirk in a few).

Monday night came, I tried to have dinner and could not! My man did, I tried to sleep and could not! He did not either but because I didn't let him lol! We studied questions that night...I was extremely concerned because my man is BAD reaaaallly BAD with dates....all the other information he had down pack...but the poor guy is forgetful by nature!

Tuesday morning arrived...I set the alarm for 4:00am.....I was up...got up, got ready and I laid next to him...he got up and ready...he was too anxious to pray and could not think of what to say so I prayed for the both of us. We were out the house a little before 5am, got to the consulate and the buscones were WILD! parked and were in line by 5:20am.

The doors were open by 6:20. Buscones will ask you to have your forms stapled...Do not listen...if anything needs to be stapled the employees that stand outside with navy blue shirts that say INFO in the back will staple if needed!

Of course my man was doubtful when the buscones started to talk...I warned him the night before and told him again...tranquilo no le hagas caso.
We were in pretty fast...our lucky number was 14. Apparently we were in the wrong line....so the lady who took care of us skipped us to the front. For some reason K1 is considered "Residencia" so just make sure when you get there.

We were in by 6:35am, I went to the restroom, came out and a few min later we were called up. Here we turned in the actas, DS-160, 156K and receipts.

Oh the receipts....The very nice young lady keeps checking all of the receipts we handed her....so apparently there was one missing the $15.00 one. My fiance's mouth dropped and he was extremely nervous....I didn't even want to look at him because I repeated 500 million times....son DOS recibos uno de $160.00 y uno de $15.00. At this point a million thoughts went through my mind. I kept thinking omg I was doing the math the other night and it did not look right, and I failed to ask him...got caught up in the moment of being with him and the excitement that I failed to ask!!! CHECK EVERYTHING!!! Any little detail can escape at this point....its A LOT and sometimes we just can't rely on our fiance's for these things....This could have technically saved us sooo much time, and it could have been done on Monday before the interview...but we both failed....I did not want to blame him I just stood quiet and asked, Que podemos hacer!

The lady was very nice, took a copy of the front cover of his passport and told us, vallan al banco paguen los $15.00 dolares y vuelvan directo aqui.
So we did, only thing is the freaking bank didn't open until 9am...it was 7:05 when we left....I felt I was going to pass out at some point...I just kept saying in my mind "Todo pasa por algo".

Anyhow, we had breakfast which was needed!! Put gas in the car, and parked outside of Banco Popular at about 8:30am. Got in super fast, left and we were at the consulate by 9:20AM. Walked directly to the window, the young lady was not there so we were asked by the other lady to have a seat and we would be called. We were called at about 10AM, handed her the receipt and she double checked everything. She said wow duraron mucho, we both nodded and said yes the bank opened at 9am...We went to pay the $80.00 and sat down again.

At this time it was HOT and HUMID! We waited and at about 11:50AM he was called for fingerprints. Now I started to feel butterflies, but honestly I just wanted to LEAVE!!! Tick Tock, Tick Tock, couples approved, people leaving, babies crying, the heat, the fans! We got up we sat and FINALLY at 12:50PM we were called to window 20. I kept telling my man we would go to window 19 where the CO was approving everyone lol...but no...20 it was.

I breathed in and off we went. The night before I told my man I had a plan...my plan was to speak English the whole time that way we would not be separated! IT WORKED! We went in and a mid 40's white male greeted us. I said loud and clear "GOOD AFTERNOON"...he then asked if my man understood or spoke English, he replied no. The CO said well better for you BOTH!

We laughed. Someone had left a small packet with a passport and other documents inside, I handed over to the CO and when we stepped away from the desk I saw the green ticket and smiled...my fiance asked and I said lo viiiiiiiiii lol.

He proceeded to the interview

To me:
CO:When did you meet?
ME: We met June of 2007 at my uncles convenience store (the store is connected to my house)
CO:That was a while back! So he was still married when you met!
Me: Yes, but that marriage was due to a "moral" obligation, they were both very young, she conceived and he wanted to be a responsible kid and marry her. However the baby passed at birth and the marriage ended, the were separated immediately, but not legally until 2011.
CO: Hmm, I am going to ask him to verify all this for me, Can you tell me why they took so long to divorce and when exactly did the baby die?
Me: I do not know much details of the baby's death, I do know it was at birth due to the young lady having a seizure. And honestly they both did not have the need to divorce...
CO: When did you guys become exclusive?
Me: April 2, 2012! I smiled...he also did and said OK his turn!

CO then proceeded to ask my fiance
CO: Cuando empezaron su ralcion?
Fiance: Julio del 2012.... I WANTED TO KILL HIM! lol

CO looked at me and said...ok you say April he says July which of the two?
I said he is confused and has a lot of built up anticipation, please ask him again...sorry.

He says don't be sorry this is your interview. Asked my fiance gain and my fiance replied ABRIL 2012 disculpe!

CO: Donde se conocieron?
Fiance: En Junio del 2007 en su casa
CO: En su casa esta suguro?
Fiance: En el colmado de su tio, lo que sucede es que esta justo al lado de su casa.
CO: (To me) Is that right?
Me: Yep.

CO: Porque duro tanto para divorciarce?
Fiance: Ella estaba fuera
CO: Porque se caso con ella?
Fiance: Porque quedo embarazada y quise responderle como hombre
CO: Que paso con el bebe?
Fiance: Murio
CO: Cuando?
Fiance: Como a los 7 o 8 meses de gestacion

To me:
Ok, what does your fiance do for a living?
How long has he been doing this?
What are his parents name?
What is his brother's name?
How old is his brother?

He asked my fiance his brothers age to confirm.

To my fiance:
Como se llama la mama de su prometida?
donde vive?
Vive sola?
Cuantos años tiene su hijo?
Cuando nacio?
Como se llama?
Cuando nacio (Yes he asked TWICE)?
Y su papa de que murio? y Cuando?
My fiance replied no recuerdo. CO then looked at me and said what happened to your dad?

I said he died approximately 10 years back due to liver cancer, we do not talk about it much. I was not close to him. He then asked me if I had brothers and sisters, I said yes but we are not very close.

He asked my fiance:
Tiene hermanos y hermanas?
Donde viven?
Donde vive su esposa?
My fiance said...No tengo esposa.
Co laughed and said disculpe su prometida.
Fiance replied.
Donde trabaja su prometida?
Cuanto tiempo tiene ahi?
Que hace?
Que dias trabaja y cual es su horario?
Que estudio su prometida?

At this moment he started to look at our 129F and said to me when did you start your relationship again? I answered. He said but it says here end of March. I said yes I know, that was the trip when it all started, but I am giving you a specific date. He asked why so specific how do you remember that! I said WELL I am a women....what women doesn't remember their multiple anniversary dates!! He laughed and said you are right...I always forget and my wife remembers!

He then asked me if his family was paying me for this, or if he was paying me or if this was a family favor?

I replied no one could pay me enough for all this stress and that this would be one heck of a favor, I told him this is legit we are in love, and the only payment I will accept is giving my son the family he needs. He then looked at the pic I sent of my fiance and my baby and asked me if they have interacted, how often and if he recognizes him...at this point it seemed more like a conversation rather than an interview. He asked if I sent my fiance money, I said NOPE can't afford to...single moms need to make ends met. He replied I come from a single mom home so I know!

We all stood quiet...he was looking at some paperwork, handed my fiance a pamphlet with immigrant rights, and asked him:
A tenido problemas con la ley
A solicitado visa antes
Lo han pedido antes

Then he looked at me and said...All is well...its just what I have to do...I said ok.

He continued to my fiance: Su visa a sido aprovada, pero estamos esperando los resultados medicos y no nos podemos quedar con su pasaporte. Al menos que usted tenga una enfermedad muy grave todo saldra bien.

He the proceed to explain how the passport would be returned to the consulate and back to him. He looked at me and said....You know this is my job and I had to do it...I looked with a smile and said I completely understand! I kept my calm throughout the entire thing, and DID NOT show any type of nervousness...I could not..I was determined to walk out of there with our visa approved! My man was really nervous throughout the entire thing...pobre I have never seen him like this.

Before we left I asked him to confirm the steps we had to take, I was puzzled by him giving us the passport but I did see many approved couples leaving with the passport, seems like this is a norm now!

My fiance and I were still in interview mode and shocked. We paid Domex, the guy was nice enough to explain what we needed to do...We walked out of there cheesing!!! Finally when we got to the car we kissed and got teary eye from the excitement.

It was a long long long day but I could not be any happier. I was not asked for ANYTHING! Just in case I left my fiance copies of all the forms I had. I noticed most of the questions came off our petition...so I suggest you guys review that information thoroughly.

The followup continues as we wait for the results to get in....but I have faith all will be well. We are not in a rush, we both have a lot to organize and get ready before its time for him to come...so Dios sabra porque! God's timing is perfect and I am content and appreciative of how fast everything has happened...gotta look at the bright side, our petition was approved in 52 days!!! I thought I would still be waiting for an NOA2 by this time!!!

Thanks VJ for providing me with all the tools needed! Once that passport is stamped and he has it we will drink some Brugal and celebrate!!!!
Rating : Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
