Comments : Having been put in to Administrative Processing (most likely for a muslim sounding surname) on April 16th 2012, I received an email asking for my passport so they could issue the visa on August 2nd. This was a wait of 16 weeks.

UPDATE
From receiving the email and sending the passport immediately, it took 3 and a half weeks for it to finally get approved. I was told it'd be delivered in 5-7 days but it took only 3.

Comments : Had an RFE because i took my wife's name upon marriage. I submitted a copy of my marriage certificate and EAD (they had already accepted my name change for this) and told them that having spoken to immigration lawyers and the county court clerk that they all informed me to just send in the documents mentioned above, along with an explanation of why i was taking my wife's name.
About 2 weeks later, I received a letter asking me to attend an interview with my wife.

UPDATE:
Had the interview today. It took 20mins, the guy was super friendly and he said he'd send to his boss to review and approve. I got home and checked the USCIS site to see what status it was in and it said the card was in production.

Comments : After 75 days of not hearing back, I raised a service request for approaching regulatory deadline. As I had no response to this request, I put in a service request to expedite my case due to financial hardship. Again I had no response within the deadlines set, so I sent an email to USCIS HQ after the 90 day period stating that not only had the 90 timeframe pass without any communications received but to also state that 2 service requests I submitted also did not get responded to.
On day 93 I checked my online status which states my application has been approved.

Event Description
Review Date : August 23, 2013
Embassy Review : Ok, so after being put in additional processing for 22 weeks and having to cancel my initial wedding, then having to wait an extra 6 weeks to get my EAD because of additional checks, then receiving an RFE for changing my name (took my wife's name)....I finally was invited to my interview today at the Dallas office.

I have to say, it was a REALLY good experience. After the above mentioned issues, I was expecting yet more frustration but it was the simplest part of the process to date. Here's how it went.

We got to the office about 30mins before our 9.30am time slot. We were met by some very friendly security guys who were laughing and joking with us. I had told my wife to leave any electronic devices in the car (you have to at the embassy) but it became apparent that you're actually allowed to take them in with you. We gave the security officers our appointment letter and they directed us to the second floor.

We went to the second floor and traded our appointment letter for a pager, the flashing kind you get while waiting for your table at a restaurant. At exactly 9.30am, our pager went off and we were met by our officer (Sam). Sam was very friendly and we joked about it finally being the end of the week before he took us in to his office. Before we sat down we swore that we were telling the truth and he asked for both our Passports and Photo IDs.

After this he went through confirming our details that we had on file i.e. address etc and then proceeded to ask my wife and I about what we do for work. We had some fun conversations during this part. Sam then asked the yes/no questions on the application form for clarification and then asked to see my wife's latest W2 and tax return. After this, he said he's taking the I-94 from my passport and he'll keep that.

We were in there for about 15mins. He said he needs to send the file to his manager for review before approving and that it'll take 3-4 days, then I should hear back in 2-3 weeks. I asked if he needed to see any of the evidence I had brought with me (apartment lease, car lease, joint bank statement, photos etc) and he said no, your case looks very logical from what you've already provided. He then took one of our photos (I think he just felt bad that we'd prepared and didn't need it) and then we were done.

When I got home, I checked my status on USCIS and it said the card had been ordered and in production.

Honestly, just don't worry about the interview. If you're legit and have nothing to hide, it's really straight forward.
Harassment Level : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
