Embassy Review : Arrived at embassy at 0730 for my CR-1 interview and the queue was about 20-30 deep already but the line began to move relatively quickly. Following security and on entering the main building i received a ticket (4th in queue for immigrant visas) and began to wait. The ticket machine subsequently malfunctioned some time after my arrival so there was some kerfuffle with people waiting after me but it was quickly and efficiently dealt with from what i could gather. I had my ticket anyway so wasn't too concerned

After about 30-45 mins of waiting i was called to the first window and began answering some simple questions. Got chatting to the lady behind the window and had a nice conversation with her even though her demeanour was somewhat combative. She noted that my medical did not appear to be in the file and i told her i had had it done the week before. Knightsbridge Doctors say that it takes 4 working days to get your results to the Embassy and my interview was on the 4th day after that so wasn't too concerned about it not being there yet. The first window experience took about 10 minutes in total after which i was given the pink courier form to read and fill out and told to sit down and wait to be called.

After another 30 mins waiting my ticket was called over the loud speaker and I was told to go to another window. I was greeted by a young American lady who started by getting me to swear an oath to tell the truth. She then gave me back original docs (birth certificate, marriage certificate, police certificate). Wasn't asked to provide additional copies as i included them in DS-230. After this she began with the questioning. When/how did we meet? What does my wife do for a living? Where will we live? Who was at the wedding? What did i expect to do for work? All fairly standard questioning from my point of view. She probed on a few points like the details of the wedding but unless you are lying there was nothing in the questioning that was there to trip you up. So within 10 minutes start to finish she said that she was approving the Visa and that i was good to go!

She then explained that the medical had not yet arrived and asked if it was okay to keep my passport for a couple of weeks until they could complete my case with the medical included. I wasn't planning on going anywhere so said it was fine. She then explained what i would eventually receive by courier (big white envelope and passport back with visa in it) and that i should call the wife and head to the desk and pay the courier. Superb!

After leaving the window i headed to the courier desk by the entrance/exit and handed over my courier form that i had filled out. Now here's a thing that worried me a little. When you are at the first window they use several stickers on things. One on your passport, one on your appointment letter i think and most importantly for you one on the courier form. These stickers link all these pieces together with a unique number. Now i don't know if it was just my set of stickers but they didn't appear to be very sticky. So somewhere in between my receiving the pink courier form and ending up at the courier desk, this sticker with identifier number had come off. The lady behind the desk asked where it was and i started to panic that it was on the floor somewhere and i would have to go searching. She said that they absolutely needed this sticker. Luckily after searching my folder i found it inside there. Panic over. Just something to note.

So after paying the £14.80 by card (no cash) i was out the door. Was done by 0930. All in all it was a very efficient process and quicker than i had expected. Very happy indeed with the efficiency of everything.

My interview was on the Tuesday and i expected a bit of a wait for the package since my medical had not arrived. But the package arrived on the Friday. Once again, superb!

Things to note:

1) No electronics WHATSOEVER
2) Bring interview letter
3) No big bags (i would only bring a plastic bag and not take any bag at all)
4) Bring credit card (no cash accepted for courier although if you want a coffee/snack bring it is needed)
5) Read the page on your appointment letter to see if there is any documentation you need to bring for the interview (if you have been diligent in your CR-1 application then you shouldn't need anything except your interview letter but may wish to bring an extra copy of your complete DS-230)
6) Turn up as early as possible no matter what time you appointment is (mine was for 0930). As far as i can gather it is a first come first served basis and once you have a ticket you are in the queue.

Hope all this helps
Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
