My interview was at 9am, but i arrived to line up outside the embassy at 7am and was second in line, the line got long very quicker so its a good job i got there early! My partner was not allowed in as his name was not on the list (i would advise to let them know as soon as possible if someone will be coming in with you so they can be put down on the registration list). I needed my payment reciept and appointment letter to enter, as well as my passport of course. Got X-rayed and bags scanned. You are not allowed any electronics into the embassy or keys, i left them with my partner (however we did originally hide them in some bushes nearby). Once in i lined up at reception for my ticket number, and entered the waiting room. There are about 22 booths sort of like a post office, and a huge waiting room which your ticket number will get called to a booth. Took me about 15 minutes to be called as this is an immigration visa (non-immigration visa's get called quicker), where i gave my payment recipt, long-form birth certificate, police certificate and affidavit of support(s) + photocopies. He gave me back my relationship evidence i sent in and took my fingerprints and gave me a form to enter my address so they could send me my visa and then sent me to wait longer. About 45 minutes after that of waiting i got called for my actual interview at another window booth. A friendly American man greeted me, gave me my documents that i'd just handed in back, took my fingerprint scans again to make sure it was me, then asked me to do an oath that i would tell the truth. He asked me when and how i met my fiance (then more questions on which partner website/game we met on and how we kept in touch online), what we did when i first went to visit him, had he visited me in the UK, how he would support me (as he had been in the UK for 6 months for the birth of our baby, had to leave his full time job and work self employed earning a basic wage online) but i explained we had a co-sponsor and would be living with him til he found fulltime work again, which he understood. He then asked me what we had (son or daughter) and congratulated me which was nice! Then asked me why we chose the USA rather than the UK. When i was going to get married, whether we had a particular venue in mind. He asked if i planned to work in the USA. Then he said he was satisfied with the answers id given, and that id been approved for a visa! I almost cried! Thanked him, got my X-ray from him to hand in at customs when i enter the USA, and then went to the queue in the waiting room where you pay for postage of your visa (you get an option of different times for it to arrive via courier, cheapest is 14 GBP which is what i got). I paid, then went outside where my fiance greeted me through the embassy bars and could tell by my huge smile that i'd been accepted  |
