Embassy Review : So we got there the day before our interview on the 30th, and I got to the DR on the 29th. We spent the night at Jardines del Teatro which is a really nice little hotel thats less than a full block away from the consulate. Highly recommend it, they have a kitchen and fridge so you can cut down on food expenses as their is a super market a few blocks away. The woman who owns it is very nice and is an aspiring architect who actually designed the hotel!

So we didnt sleep the night before, we were far too nervous. We decided to get in line at 5:30 in the morning for our appointment at 6:45. This is where the fun starts. I decided to bring a USB drive with all of our texts, AIM logs and Skype logs because our skype alone was 3000+ pages and we just didnt want to carry around that many pages. So about an hour after waiting in line we got to the front door and the separated guys from gals and i took our file with our hundreds of pages and the USB drive. Mariel in the other line got in fine but they sent me out because of the USB drive. Not allowed. So i decided to try to hide it in a bush outside the embassy where no one will find it, but a police officer saw me and told me nope, gotta give it to the lady across the street. At least i think he did, as i dont speak spanish. Nonetheless i gave it to this lady and tried to get back in the embassy. They wouldnt let me in and told me to get BACK in line. Meanwhile Mariel is in the embassy with no paperwork at all, and they wont let her leave. They told her you are here now and you have to wait till your interview is over. So im stuck outside and cant speak spanish and shes stuck inside and they wont let her talk to me or anything. We were both hoping that by the i finally got in that they hadnt called her name cus she didnt have ANYTHING! I finally get in the embassy about 45 minutes later and not a minute (literally) too soon, cus i sit down, we are both furious, and as soon as i sit down they call her name. Praise God for that, we made it!
Ok, so we go up to the first window and they take some paperwork and what not and tell us to go pay the fees, we sit down again and quickly are called up to get her finger prints taken. After that we play the waiting game for 2 hours before we are called for our interview, and for the last 45 minutes of waiting for it I see this family at window 21 i believe it was who was just taking forever in their interview. I said to Mariel (because we saw numbers around us when we came in finishing up) i bet thats our CO and thats why we are waiting so long. Sure enough that was it, after that family left window 21 we get called up to window 21.
Mariel asks her to speak in english so we can both understand and she ask us a few questions and swear us in. She then talks to Mariel in spanish and i understood that she said she cant speak english cus it was muy importante. She then seems angry and sends me to wait while she interviews Mare. According to Mare she seemed rude and asked where she learned english (we suspect cus she was jealous and couldnt beleive she learned it in the DR because its better than most americans to be honest) She also told Mariel that she was missing a paper and Mare said what paper and then she turned her mic off and asked the next window and then turned the mic on again and said, nevermind.
Question time!

whats your age
whats your fiancees age
She also yelled at Mare saying she couldnt see me behind the glass cus she asked me to sit down in the middle where she could see me, which is where i was but Mare was blocking her view i guess, so mare moved to the side and she saw me

Im looking up the whole time and im really nervous cus it seemed like she was there for like 20 minutes. She called me back through the speaker cus she didnt want Mariel to talk to me and influence my answers.

My turn, and during my questioning i got the strong suspicion she was new because she kept turning off the mic and asking the next window for help.

What is my name
what is your fiancees name
How did you meet
when was the first time you visited her
what did you bring her the first time you visited her
what was the last gift you got her for her birthday

what kind
is she on birth control now
what is she using
what are your parents names
what are her parents names
where does your fiancee live
where do her parents live

after that she told me to go get mare and i did and brought her up to which she proceeded to tell us we were approved (and again had to get the person from the other window involved for this part...what a noob) and gave us a green card and we assume she told us to pay domex, we were so excited we hugged and kissed and didnt hear anything but went and paid domex.

Little did we know, this was just the beginning of our Visa Issuance scare. If you want to know more about that read our last few posts but the conclusion is dont ever believe what you hear from the consulate, only believe what you hear from the visa specialist aka department of state. Also do not use the tracking number you get from domex, we picked her visa up today and it still says its at the consulate. Call domex and call the visa specialist. Again do not waste your time money and energy on calling the consulate, they only gave us wrong information that almost resulted in multiple heart-attacks and strokes.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
