Consulate Review: Dominican Republic
Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : December 22, 2007
Embassy Review : We lined up at about 515 AM along with all the other Immigrant Visa Applicants. We were made it into the consulate at about 8:30AM. As soon as we entered we sat down on the metal benches and less than 5 minutes after being their my wife was called over the PA system to go to window 13. When we got there she was given a number and we were handed back some papers which weren't needed for the case. After this we sat down again. And at about 8:45AM my wife's number appeared on the screen and was instructed to go to window 14. This time they took her digital fingerprints of all 10 fingers. We sat down again after this. And about less than five minutes later my wife's number was displayed again and instructed to go to window 19. Here we were greeted by a nice young lady who I greeted by saying "Good Morning". She told us to raise our right hand and swore us in. After this it was almost like a casual conversation with her she asked me: "When did I meet my wife?", "Did I have any family there in DR?", after this she then asked my wife in spanish "Where did I work and What I did?", "Do you have any family in the US?", and "What is your husband's mother's name?". After this she told us that the visa was approved. Overall the experience was very pleasant when dealing with the hard working State Department Staff. The only difficult part is the way they handle applicants outside. The facilitators that worked the lines need to improve upon their customer service skills.
Rating : Good

POE Review: JFK
Event Description
Entry Date : 2007-12-20
Embassy Review : We arrived at JFK and me and my wife when on the US Citizens line. The agent stamped my US Passport with an entry stamp and then we gave him the IV packet and my wife's passport. He stamped it and directed us to a desk down the hall. When we got there we gave the packet to a gentleman sitting behind a desk. He then told us to have a seat. About five minutes later they called my wife's name told her to sign her name and then they took some ink prints. After this they gave her the passport. After this we picked up our bags and cleared customs.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
