I filed our I-485 on April 17th 2019, so feel extremely lucky to have attended the interview at Portland OR on July 10th. Firstly, I have to say the Portland OR office has been brilliant, both for the Biometric appointment and interview. Very relaxed and everyone is very polite and friendly.
We arrived 30 minutes early, lots of places to park nearby, and made our way through the airport style security. We produced both the Interview letter and ID for security and then headed over to the desk to register our arrival. We were booked in and handed back the letter with a slip of paper with a number on it. We were told by the receptionist that we will probably be called by our names rather than by number. We headed up the stairs to the waiting room. Rather a large busy area.
We were called on time, by our names , we were greeted very politely by Officer Gibson, who directed us through to his office. He explained what to expect during the interview. We all shared a bit of a joke about the amount of documents I had prepared for the interview and how organised it was. He said it was good to have everything at hand for an interview. The usual swearing in, photo and index fingerprints were taken. He started by confirming our names, DOB’s etc. He went through the package in front of him asking random questions: Work history, POE date, how did we meet, where we married and a few of the Yes/No questions and then finally asked what documents we had brought and wanted him to add to the file. He said he expected us not to have a great deal to show him as he was aware this interview was fast compared to the average. We handed over originals, which he returned, and then the copies of the normal joint documents: Insurances, utility bills, joint bank details, 401k beneficiary etc. He then looked through a photo album we brought along and our wedding album. We had spare prints and also photos printed on normal paper (4 to a page) and gave him the choice of which he wanted. He chose the photos on paper purely because it’s easier to add to the 2 hole punch file.
I was approved at the interview. He explained that my I-751 and I-131 has not been looked at yet so not to expect them as the Green Card covers everything. He also explained that if I have not updated my UK passport, prior to any travel, it’s not a problem to travel with my UK passport, Green Card and a certified copy of our Marriage. Officer Gibson was so friendly and very informative. We thanked him, shook his hand and he showed us the way back to waiting area. By the time we got back to the car, I had received a Case Status update. “New Card is being producedâ€!
This all sounds rather long winded but actually the interview only lasted just over 15 minutes. It felt more like a friendly conversation than an interview.
With all the invaluable advice on VJ we have found this whole process so easy.

Sorry for jumping on your timeline. Seems like we have been on roughly the same schedule so was hoping you may be able to provide some assistance if possible?!
My fiancé got in touch with the NVC last Tuesday (27th Nov). They said they had just forwarded it onto London and gave us our case# (starting with LND) we are yet to receive anything from the London consulate yet.
I was wondering if you knew if it is possible for us to go ahead and do the DS-160 form and arrange our medical or even our interview now? Or do we need to wait until we receive a letter from London with more details.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as the waiting is getting harder and harder!

Yep i agree, the waiting is the worst part.
I sorted my DS-160 as soon as The CEAC status changed to ‘In Transit’. Once I had the case number I arranged the medical, interview date and courier with no problems at all. I actually didn’t receive anything from consulate until 3 days after my medical.
I believe many people get straight onto arranging interviews etc before the official letter. I’d get things in motion, things go way faster from now on. Hope this helps. Am here if you have any more questions. And good luck 😉
Hi, hope all is well. Just wanted to ask if you received any info regarding your N-400? It seems like most of applicants from Portland are getting interview scheduled with in 6 month period. April filers should be due but I know every case is different.

Congrats on getting your citizenship. Did you ask for same day oath or did they offer it before the interview? Also do you mind sharing some information on how the interview was, what civics questions you were asked and if you were allowed to bring your someone in with you. Just the experience overall.
