I was a bit concerned about arriving in JFK as I had to make a connecting flight after POE. No need to have worried - I was through immigration before my flight was actually due to land (less than 20 minutes). The first officer concerned me as she said that there was some documentation that she couldn't find, but she must have found it again as I was then sent through to the office. Waited there for about 5 minutes, everything was checked and found to be in order and I was on my way. |

Interview was at 8.00 on 26th August. I arrived at the Embassy at about 7:20 (having first stopped at Goulds' to drop off my electricals), and there was a line, but probably no more than 15-20 people at that stage, although that number increased (obviously) time progressed. Got into the Embassy and was assigned a number at about 7:45 and then sat and waited for my number to be called.
My number was first called at about 8.10. I handed over all my documentation (passport, photos, affadavit, police certificates, birth certificate) but found the first lady very difficult to understand as she had quite a strong accent. However, I was treated pleasantly with no issues. Sat back down and..yeah..this wait seems to go on for ever. There are a lot of 'N' numbers, and those seem to be called out all the time, whereas the 'I' numbers were a lot slower. I don't think I could have read a book, but if you're able to concentrate when numbers are being called all the time (and don't get paranoid about missing your number) then it might be an idea to take one.
My number was called again at about 9:20. I had to raise my right hand and swear that everything I had put on my application was true. She then asked me to complete the bottom of form DS156, asked me when I was planning to go to the US, when our wedding was going to be, and who was coming to which one (as I mentioned we were having two ceremonies). And then she told me she was just going to approve my visa, and that was it! I've read other reviews and noted how quick it was, but it's still difficult to believe that it's so short until you're actually there! Know that Nich-Nick has likened that conversation to one being had at the post office when buying stamps, and she's spot on (as usual). Went and paid the courier and was out by 9.25. |
