I had my POE at Dallas, TX airport a few days ago. I was worried I would not have enough time between flights (2.45 hours) and I would miss my last connecting flight, but it went really smooth.
I had booked a front and aisle seat and, as we landed, I was already kind of ready to run; I was among the first people, after business class, stepping out of the plane. I just followed the signs on my way to the POE area and waited for my turn in the Non-Citizens line. It was a 15 minutes wait aprox. The officer took my passport and the sealed big envelope + X-ray results I was carrying with me. He asked me where and how my fiance and I met, and reminded me that we have 90 days to get married. I was nervous, and he was remarkably nice and kind. Then he took my digital fingerprints and picture, and walked me to a room close by, where I waited 30/40 minutes aprox.
The officer who called me in the room simply entered my data (I guess) on the computer and asked me when we intend to wed; I said Dec, 21, and he congratulated me and gave me my passport back. He also gave me the X-ray results back and said they no longer need them and do as I please with them. I headed to the baggage claim.
I picked my three suitcases, that were sitting next to the tray after all that time, and walked through the exit where another officer checked my Customs form and passport/visa. He saw I am a K1 and he did not give a hard time. I dropped my baggage in the try for connecting flights and I cross the exit; I was ready to go!
Afterwards I just pass the airport control again and took the Skyline train to the terminal where my next flight was departing from. So basically, I was done and sitting by the boarding gate one hour before the flight, and I could finally breath... Less than three hours afterwards, I was hugging my fiance, who waited for me at my destination airpot with a red rose! :-)
So the POE went really smooth, but I still think that I was lucky with the waiting times. It was a Sunday, late evening; and I wonder how it would have turned out on a busier day/time.
