When we (my fiancee and I) got to the immigration area after landing from London Heathrow, I asked a CBP officer a couple questions regarding the I-94 and the customs declaration. He was very helpful, advised that I only needed to complete the back of the customs declaration if I was bringing in goods bought in the last 12 months or that I was going to sell on in the US - neither applied, so all was good.
We were told that we could join either queue, so ended up joining the USC/LPR queue - we got to the immigration officer and she took the brown envelope, passports, I-94 and customs declaration forms. She handed back the x-ray dvd and said that she doesn't know why the embassies keep telling people to bring them with the immigration stuff - they don't care lol
She went through the forms in the brown envelope, stamping where necessary, stamped our customs forms, discharged my visa and stamped the passport with the end date, and that was it - no secondary, no questions except general ones like where did we meet, etc.
Moved on to pick up our bags from the carousel (3 large cases, one medium case, to go with the two cabin cases and two backpacks that we were already carrying), and then through to the customs point where the officers took the declarations and weaved us through with no searches or anything.
All done, no hassles whatsoever.
