Wife and I went through the inspection point together. Officer at the entry point was very nice and told her he was sorry but he had to send her to the back with the mysterious brown envelope. I was told I could not wait with her in the holding room...I had to wait behind the barrier just behind the offices. It was very busy that day and she was escorted back with many others including some Indian folks who were in tears. I waited and waited and waited. I started to become concerned after an hour. Then magically she appeared from the office with a big smile signifying that we were done!
Luckily the airline pulled our bags to the side since everyone else from the London flight had long since left and we breezed through customs and out the door!
All in all it was an OK experience. No one was unfriendly but no one was overly friendly either. My wife did say that the officer taking her biometrics in the "room" said "we've got an Irish girl who was last denied at Dublin airport trying to come on VWP". She began to get worried but they said everything was fine since she had an immigrant visa (CR1) now.
That's it. From landing to out the door took almost 2 hours...Houston is a busy POE!
