What a great experience!
As per the suggestions of everyone on VJ, we got to the consulate around 6:30. We made the walk from our hotel the day before, just to make sure we knew how long it would take.
Once we got there, we were the 4th in line. I told Hubby that the girl with the purse would be turned away, and the guy with the briefcase. Correct on both. I think both of them ended up just emptying the contents and throwing away their bags... they weren't messing around.
We went through security- super easy- walked straight to the elevators. Once the officer let us in the (TINY) elevator, we shuffled to the back, rode to the 19th floor, and were able to get a C3 ticket. They did not call the numbers in order. Windows 1-4 were for document intake, and I didn't go up with Hubby for that part.
About 15-20 minutes after document intake, our number was called to window 8. We had a SUPER nice officer who just basically had a conversation with us. He asked these questions:
1. Where did we meet?
2. Where did we get married?
3. What do I (petitioner) do in the US?
4. What does Hubby intend to do in the US? What does he currently do in Canada?
5. Any trouble at the border?
Those aren't in order, and I'm sure he asked more, I just can't remember them right now. LOL.
But then, the best words we could have heard... "Welcome... welcome Back to the United States of America" javascript:emoticon(' ')
javascript:emoticon(' ')
javascript:emoticon(' ')
Overall, everything went very smoothly. They did not ask for any additional evidence, which we brought anyways. They also didn't interrogate us like they sometimes do at the border. The officer was so friendly, and seemed genuinely interested in our little story.
It could have helped that we've known each other for almost a decade now, and that Hubby grew up in the US, but I've read almost all positive reviews from MTL.
