Review Topic: K1 Visa

My fiance had his interview June 22. He said they asked very few questions and did not want to look at pictures or other proof of relationship he offered. They said they had no doubt about the legitimacy of our relationship. The interview with the Filipino CO went fine.

When he got to the American CO, there was in issue with finances. The CO said he needed current pay stubs. My current pay stubs were actually already in the packet that the CO had, but he apparently didn't notice or care. My fiance tried to explain further that my mother was willing to act as a joint sponsor. The CO said, "We do not accept co-sponsors for the K1 visa" and refused paperwork showing my mother's finances and offer of support. He was issued a 221g on which "proof of current sustained income" was checked. They kept all of his paperwork and his passport and told him to mail the requested documents directly to the embassy via 2GO.

We're now trying to compile another financial package. Hopefully they will look at these documents in their entirety and approve us! 9 months and counting! I used to think it was silly for people to book their fiance(e)'s flight immediately after the interview. I thought, "What's the rush?" but now I'm starting to understand...this process is so tedious and lengthy that it's truly a blessing and a time to celebrate if/when you FINALLY receive your visa.
