Well, I'll start off with the fact that I'm from SPM (San Pedro de Macoris). The only way for me and my fiancee to be at the consulate early enough, was by either staying at a hotel close by, or driving there. Well, we drove. Got up around 2am, and left SPM around 3am with a friend and his mother as our guides for the capitol.
We arrived at the consulate at 4:15am. We parked about two blocks away, where you have to pay 200 pesos (not that bad). We were third in line, and everyone there was just talking to each other, in order to keep themselves awake. Slowly people started arriving and getting in the line. Some people started saying that the line I was currently in, was only for "residencias", and about 20mins later, I decided to move to the "Visa" line. BIG MISTAKE. After waiting until 6am for the "Info" staff to start giving out numbers, we were told to go to the correct line (which was the one we were in the first time). We had to get behind about 100+, but instead of loosing it, I just kept my cool, and laughed it off.
The line moved relatively quick, by 6:30am We got the lucky number 97. Shortly there-after, we were seperated (men on one side, women on the other). It seems there is always more women than men. So Men go in quicker. I was in by 6:45am, and sat next to our VJ friends "pereira=delgado". At first I had no idea it was them, so after my Fiancee finally got through security, I just had to ask them. It was good to have fellow VJ members by our side, we gave each other support everytime one of our numbers were called.
After about 45mins of just sitting on those metal benches, our number was finally called to window 21 (sigh). We gave in all of my fiancee's forms, police certificate, cedula, passport, birth certificate, banco popular receipts. Then we were told to go pay $80 dollars at another window, and come back to window 21 to turn in the receipt. About 30mins later, we were called for finger prints. Then we got really hungry, so we bought some really expensive sandwiches from the cafeteria. At about an hour or so later, we were finally called to window 24 to be sworn in. The lady had a very rough spanish accent, and asked: "So you guys have a baby in common?" We both said yes. Then she wanted to see the born abroad certificate of our daughter, so I handed it to her. Then she smiled and with her very funny spanish accent said: "Felicidades, su visa aprovada". We were in a slight shock because we went really prepared. Specially my fiancee, since I was grilling all kinds of questions into her memory banks, so she didn't forget anything. We just looked at each other, stunned, because the whole thing didn't even take 3 minutes. We smiled, and as we walked down the small stairs, we kissed. Then I told my Fiancee to go sit down while I got in line to pay DOMEX. Once in line, I noticed that "pereira=delgado" were there as well, so I was very happy to see that they got approved with ease. It was almost 10am when we were heading out the door.
